CANTERBURY BULLDOGS vs NORTH QLD COWBOYS - Thursday night 7.50pm, Allianz

I have said this on numerous occasions – the Bulldogs don’t impress me. They have lost Josh Reynolds for the game and come up against a side whom get some very good players back in Granville and Coote. They have been Thurston-less for a month now but have fought on well enough. I think the COWBOYS ($2.4) are a huge chance of an upset here tonight.

This will be no cakewalk for the Cowboys so look to the value inside the COWBOYS 1-12 ($3.50). The Dogs toil away and despite one big flogging this year, they are always thereabouts. For First Try Scorer it is hard to go past the rampaging beast of a human being – JASON TAUMALOLO ($29). The Cowboys forwards are often the beneficiary of some lateral Morgan running with inside balls back to the likes of Lowe, Cooper and Big Jase. Looks worthy of a bet does the big fella.

ST GEORGE-ILLAWARRA vs CRONULLA - Friday night 6.00pm, Jubilee Oval

The Sharks will be smarting from the stunning win by St George earlier this season in the Shire. Whilst this game is being played at Jubilee Oval, the Sharks go into this game with a much better side than Saints, who have lost arguably their two best players to injury. This is the beginning of the end for the Dragons this season. I know they have had a great start to the season but I can see them falling off the perch here and will be a risk of missing out on the Top 8, with the SHARKS winning this game.

I am siding with the SHARKS 13+ margin ($2.75) , controlling the game from start to finish, so taking the SHARKS HT-FT Double ($1.83) and whilst on a Sharks roll, LUKE LEWIS ($17) can sniff out a try early doors, he scored first on no less than three occasions last season, let’s stick with him here.  Sharks across the board.

WESTS TIGERS vs SOUTH SYDNEY - Friday night 7.50pm, ANZ Stadium

Souths were awful the last time they played, Manly nearly hitting the half-century against them in a poor effort. Whist they look good on paper, I can’t tip them here. WESTS TIGERS are now settling into some semblance of calm with the Big Four’s futures determined (albeit elsewhere for the most part) they can focus on footy.

I am tipping WESTS TIGERS here in a toss of a coin contest, you just don’t know what you are going to get with these two sides at times but I keep going back to round 1 when the Tiges gave it to the bunnies.

I think it will be a close encounter, so WESTS TIGERS 1-12 ($3.40) looks a good play, and JAMES TEDESCO ($11) looks a logical selection to be First Try Scorer in this game

PENRITH PANTHERS vs NZ WARRIORS - Saturday afternoon 3.00pm, Pepper Stadium

The week off for Rep Round could be a blessing in disguise for Penrith and it is time they get their season back on track with a win here against the Warriors. Those Panthers who played in Rep games were very good, let’s hope it translates into clubland and a strong Panthers victory on Saturday afternoon at the foot of the mountains.

I am going all chips in on PENRITH. To win, PENRITH 13+ ($3.5), PENRITH HT-FT Double ($2.38) and WAQA BLAKE ($13) to Score First Try. There are no more excuses it is time for the pre-season favourites to step right up here.

MELBOURNE STORM vs GOLD COAST TITANS - Saturday afternoon 5.30pm, Suncorp Stadium

I think the Titans can start making a move up the ladder but I am not sure that will start here against the Storm. The Storm have 3 of the best players in the game, and what about Vunivalu?  I can’t tip the Titans to beat them, I have to side with the STORM and am going to go with the STORM 13+ ($2.35).  Vunivalu has been incredible to us recently, but this match am going to go with the vastly improved JOSH ADDO-CARR ($8.50) to score first.

MANLY SEA EAGLES vs BRISBANE BRONCOS - Saturday night 7.50pm, Suncorp

Manly take a strong 50% win record at Suncorp with them when they trek north on Saturday night. They square up against a Broncos side who blew Penrith off the park for the first 65 mins at this venue last time so you’d expect a tough clash. The Broncos are one of those sides you expect to drop a game soon, they had a period of just winning matches and you thought it was a matter of time, but Bennett’s boys keep on grabbing the two points.

I am tipping BRISBANE here but with little confidence. I really need to play to the value so the better bet will be BRISBANE 1-12 ($3.0) because if they win, it won’t be by much. The Eagles are playing some pretty good footy and with a State Of Origin jumper on the line, expect DCE to be in the thick of things.

First Try Scorer – is there a funnier guy outside me in Rugby League than SAM THAIDAY($36)?  Not only is he a great bloke, he doesn’t take himself too seriously off the field, but on it he is a serious footballer. Let’s back my mate to score the first try busting them on the edges in what will be a super encounter.

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS vs CANBERRA RAIDERS - Sunday afternoon 2.00pm, McDonald Jones

RAIDERS to win, RAIDERS to win 13+ ($1.75) and JORDAN RAPANA ($7) to score first. Knights just haven’t got the cattle. There were some big expectations on the Raiders and they haven’t really produced so it is time they do it here. This could be a good confidence builder for the Raiders.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS vs PARRAMATTA EELS - Sunday evening 4.00pm, Allianz

The Eels are way over the odds here against a Roosters outfit who just seem half a yard off the pace of where they need to be at the moment. The Eels have been improving and stringing together a few wins only boosts confidence and unity amongst the playing group. At the odds of around $2.75, the Eels are way too big and worth a bet.
