CRONULLA SHARKS vs MELBOURNE STORM - Thursday night 7.50pm, Shark Park

What a way to start a round of football. The Premiers up against the team many are tipping to take the title from them – The Storm. I have said it before and I will say it again – the Sharks are my premiership favourites. The team that smashed QLD in Origin One was littered with Sharks players. Back at club level, they find plenty of ways to win and just have that belief, not to mention the cattle, to go back-to-back.

Another key stat is that the Sharks have the wood on the Storm in recent times. This will come into play here. With Segayaro named on the bench and all the big guns starting, plus a question-mark over Cam Smith, I see CRONULLA winning this one. By no means will this be a romp, the Sharks love an arm wrestle and it will be a low scoring game, so two more suggested bets are TOTAL MATCH POINTS – UNDER 33.5 and also the SHARKS 1-12 Winning Margin ($2.60). LUKE LEWIS ($21) has scored the First Try in a game quite often for a forward, and with it a tight affair, look for the inside ball back to LL to land the big odds gamble on a soggy Thursday night.

MANLY SEA EAGLES vs NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS - Friday night 6.00pm, La La Land

Manly were impressive against the Raiders last weekend at home and find themselves back at Brooky against the hapless Knights. The Eagles have some injury concerns but there is a chance superstar Tom Trbojevic will return and this will lift the side no end. Newcastle’s season just struggles on and whilst they try hard, this game, like so many before, looks beyond them.

One thing that I do think will happen on Friday given the likelihood of wet weather, is the Knights keep it close for the first half of the contest. This is why I do like a NEWCASTLE / MANLY HT-FT Double ($8.50). I also like big DANIEL SAIFITI ($51) to Score First Try at massive odds as I expect the ball to be kept in close quarters in the wet.

MANLY will end up on top but I do think that the SEA EAGLES 1-12 ($3.30) looks a good bet.

Let’s cut to the chase here. I think there is a superb bet in this game and it is SOUTHS +11.5 start.  The Bunnies have a habit of pushing the Broncos, going oh so close last time out by the solitary point. Everyone has seen Madge’s rant from last game and if that didn’t kick in, nothing will. I expect a bolder showing from the Bunnies and I think there could be a negative Origin hangover floating around the Broncos at the moment.  This is definitely the bet.

As for First Try Scorer – the big boofheaded burly pommy bloke goes good – SAM BURGESS ($41) knows how to score a try, so let’s go with that block of granite to score first.

GOLD COAST TITANS vs NZ WARRIORS - Saturday afternoon 3.00pm, Cbus

I was a little bit disappointed with the Gold Coast last week but they get a great chance to redeem themselves against those inconsistent Warriors on Saturday afternoon. Hayne is back where he should be – in the No1 jersey for his club. The TITANS field a strong side and I see them taking the cake at ok odds.

When looking a bit further for some value, I had a very good weekend on the tip going the 1-12 margin last weekend. Most teams can keep with each other, and I expect it to be the same here, so with the Warriors showing some fight but the Titans too good at the end of 80 minutes. TITANS 1-12 ($3.30) is a nice investment, and I will be sending a few bob that way.

As for First Try Scorer – it is a lob at the dartboard but this kid is in the action and is at big odds, so KANE ELGEY ($26) can dot down first for the faithful.

PENRITH PANTHERS vs CANBERRA RAIDERS - Saturday afternoon 5.30pm, Carrington Park

It had to happen sometime and it is happening now. Penrith have finally clicked. They kept a listless Dogs to zero last week and are starting to play a brand of football that people expected and had them top of the markets at the start of the season. With Moylan at 5/8th, Mansour back, their big boppers firing its all systems go for the Panthers, they could be starting to make a big run towards the semis.

Standing in their way are the Raiders. Haven’t they been a big disappointment this season! For whatever reason it just has not happened for them. Their halves have been awful. Awful. Ricky Stuart must be pulling what’s left of his hair out of his head because there is no doubt about it, the Raiders should be playing better footy than some of that they have dished up recently.

PENRITH are the tip and above $1.80, they look a cracking bet. Let’s not mince around here, PENRITH 13+ Winning Margin ($3.75) is a bet because the Raiders of now are in serious trouble of getting spanked by the Panthers if they don’t show up, in Bathurst. I fear they won’t. Well I don’t fear that, I intend to profit from that. Get on the Panthers.

ISAAH YEO ($36) threw the last pass for the first try last week, let’s take him to hold onto it and crash over this week.

PARRAMATTA EELS vs NORTH QLD COWBOYS - Saturday night 7.30pm, TIO Stadium

Interesting game this one. The EELS are starting to put it together whilst the Cowboys are getting on with business in the absence of the great JT. The Cowboys are slight faves for this game being played on Darwin. On that basis, with the prospects of odds-against on Parra, I am going to back the Eels to make a good account of themselves in the Top End on Sat night.

Like a lot of these games I expect it to be a bit of a wrestle / close affair so with the expectation that PARRAMATTA will do the business, I also like the EELS 1-12 Winning Margin ($3.40). As for First Try Scorer – CLINT GUTHERSON ($26). Hasn’t this guy improved as a footballer?  He has been fabulous recently and given them another option with Corey Norman on the roster. He looks great odds to score first.

WESTS TIGERS vs SYDNEY ROOSTERS - Sunday afternoon 4.00pm, Campbelltown

This is a game about attitude. If the Roosters roll up with the right mindset, the Tigers will get blown off the park. If they don’t have that mindset, I still see them winning, but it will be a much tougher battle. When you have a look at the rosters, there is no comparison. The Roosters should win in a canter.

So we are punting on attitude and the ROOSTERS will have it. As such, I just have to steer the punters into the ROOSTERS 13+ Winning Margin ($2.0) and expect to see young LATRELL MITCHELL ($10) in the thick of it early doors, to be First Try Scorer.

ROOSTERS 13+ Winning Margin

What on earth is going on at Belmore? The place has imploded. Despite the positives of signing Foran and Woods, we have Klemmer on edge, Reynolds out on the footpath swapping stories with the CEO for where they are headed in 2018, the place is a mess. Dezzy has headache after headache and surely they have hit rock bottom? Only way is up.

The time for the Bulldogs to step up is this weekend. Four losses on the trot has meant there has been plenty of soul searching and I expect them to step right up here against the Dragons. Saints have had a cracking year and they are short odds to win this one. I hope by this game we have our noses in front for the weekend and can have a speculator on CANTERBURY around $2.70.

Given I like them outright, I think the lock of the game is the BULLDOGS +6.5 start. This is too big. As is the 20-1+ about ADAM ELLIOT being First Try Scorer. He can score a try this kid and has a bright future.
