James Tedesco – 7.5
Young Teddy had a very good game. He was able to set up a try on the back of a line break and was dangerous yet extremely reliable. Resembled his idol Billy Slater back in his heyday
Blake Ferguson – 5
Had a quiet game, which mirrored his Game 1 performance. Didn’t do enough to involve himself and could have done better for the opening try.
Josh Dugan – 7.5
Usually found out in defence, not in this game. Dugan had a strong game, making some gam changing plays such as forcing a Michael Morgan knock-on.
Jarryd Hayne – 4.5
Call it harsh but for an athlete who commands as much respect, pay and media time more is expected form Hayne. He was sloppy in defence, made silly errors, gave up unnecessary penalties and blew a try. Played a key role in NSW losing.
Brett Morris – 7
Again proved why he was chosen to play Origin. Great defence and did a solid job.
James Maloney – 5.5
Played well when not giving away stupid game changing penalties. Maloney crossed the line between niggle and costing your team.
Mitchell Pearce – 4
Pearce was anonymous in the second half. Kicked well but needed to stand up and be counted in the waning minutes.
Aaron Woods – 6.5
Woods continues to perform. 120m and a bone jarring tackle to force a Holmes knock-on early. Would have had a much better game had he not been found wanting late in the game.
Nathan Peats – 6
Peats has the potential to be a renowned hooker in the NSW line up. He needs to step up when his halves disappear. 52 tackles was great, but NSW needed direction and control. He may be forced to provide that in Game 3.
Andrew Fifita – 6
Couldn’t replicate his Game 1 performance. Queensland contained him but he still made his metres as required.
Josh Jackson – 8
His defence was tremendous as expected but his attack really went to another level. Somebody gave him a red bull pre game because his hit ups have never made more of an impact. Justified starter.
Boyd Cordner – 7.5
Cordner had a subtle 138m with key defensive impacts throughout. Played a really good game for a captain.
Tyson Frizell – 5.5
Something was off about Frizell. He tried hard, but seemed as though his head wasn’t in the game. Should have peppered Thurston much more.
David Klemmer – 6
Ran it hard, ran it hard again, and ran it hard again. Good metres for Klemmer.
Wade Graham – 5.5
Made a few great little plays, which gave NSW the upper hand. Then a dumb penalty undid his hard work. Needs more discipline to not undo all the good he can bring.
Jake Trbojevic – 7.5
The kid is a beast. Runs it hard and made life difficult for the Maroons in the first half. Great try assist and could be looking at more minutes moving forward.
Jack Bird – 5
He was a passenger off the bench. Didn’t have as much of an impact as expected. Felt out of rhythm coming on late with Queensland owning the second half.
