PARRMATTA EELS vs CANTERBURY BULLDOGS - Thursday night 8.05pm, ANZ Stadium

It doesn’t matter where these two sides are sitting on the ladder when they play, it is always a hotly anticipated contest. I’ve got a gut feeling that this one could even go to golden point!

After a disappointing outing last week I’m expecting the Dogs to really lift for this one. In saying that, I’d only want to be on them with the +6.5 start. It’s probably a stretch to see them winning outright with both James Graham and Greg Eastwood out with injury.

Let’s jump on Moses Mbye for first tryscorer. There’s some chat around that he could find himself in a Maroons jersey in a couple of weeks time. He’ll be looking to impress here and I expect to see him taking on the line quite a bit.

Outright Match Winner:

EELS

BULLDOGS +6.5

First Try Scorer:

MOSES MBYE

GOLD COAST TITANS vs ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA - Friday night 6.00pm, CBUS Super Stadium

Gee this is a tough one to pick. I’m going with the Titans purely and simply because they have the home ground advantage. It also doesn’t hurt that they are getting a few players back on deck.

The Dragons can’t put two good halves of footy together lately and their inconsistency can make them a very frustrating watch for punters!

In first try scorer betting you simply can’t ignore Konrad Hurrell. He was brilliant last week when he bagged a double. This is a confidence player who you just have to be on when he’s flying high!

Outright Match Winner:

TITANS

Margin Betting

TITANS 1-12

First Try Scorer:

KONRAD HURRELL

BRISBANE BRONCOS vs MELBOURNE STORM - Friday night 8.05pm, Suncorp Stadium

A tough game to pick with so many rep players involved. I’m sure a fair chunk of these players will be carrying some sort of injury heading into this one.

In saying that, two players we know who’ll be out are Darius Boyd and Anthony Milford. How can you tip the Broncos to beat the team at the top of the ladder with those two guys out? You can’t!

Further, who could forget what happened in the corresponding fixture last year. The Storm went up to Suncorp in round 17 last year and thumped the Broncos by 42 points. For that reason I’m happy to take the value on offer for the Storm to win 13+.

For first try scorer it’s hard to go past Cameron Munster who will be looking to have a big game with a possible State of Origin selection looming.

Outright Match Winner:

STORM

Margin Betting:

STORM 13+

First Try Scorer:

CAMERON MUNSTER

SYDNEY ROOSTERS vs CRONULLA SHARKS - Saturday afternoon 3pm, Central Coast Stadium

The Sharkies will be absolutely seething after getting thumped by the Sea Eagles last week. I still think they are a top 4 team though, and top 4 teams rarely put in two poor displays in a row.

I also hate the fact the Roosters are taking this game to the Central Coast. Do the bigwigs consider how this will impact the team’s performance or is it all about the extra cash the club receives? History shows the Roosters do very poorly when taking home games ‘away’.

I think the Sharkies 1-12 is the play, they don’t usually beat teams by big margins but they do know how to get over the line in tight games.

Jack Bird is my first try scorer tip. He has only managed one meat pie all year which has seen his first try scorer odds blow out to a very backable price. He is certainly due!

Outright Match Winner:

SHARKS

Margin Betting:

SHARKS 1-12

First Try Scorer:

JACK BIRD

MANLY SEA EAGLES vs NZ WARRIORS - Saturday evening 5:30pm, NIB Stadium, Perth.

I’m going to be completely honest from the outset – this is probably a ‘no bet’ sort of game. Mind you, most games involving the Warriors are! They are so unpredictable!

However, for those itching for a play, at least take the more sensible option and back Manly. The only problem for them is the potential for a letdown after a fantastic win last week. Losing Curtis Sironen is also a significant blow.

I think a decent value play in this is to go Warriors / Sea Eagles in the HT / FT double. The Warriors are the sort of team that could fly out of the gates and then capitulate in the second half. Meanwhile, you just get the sense Manly could be slow out of the blocks after their big win last week due to some complacency creeping in.

Let’s go Shaun Johnson to nab the first try – he knows how to catch a lazy forward off guard near the line!

Outright Match Winner:

MANLY

Half / Full Double

WARRIORS / MANLY

First Try Scorer:

SHAUN JOHNSON

CANBERRA RAIDERS vs NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS - Saturday night 7:30pm, GIO Stadium

I can’t put my finger on what the problem is with Canberra but they’re sitting 11th on the competition ladder after 17 rounds so something is seriously up!

In saying that, there’s no question they are a highly talented team and if they’re going to make a push in 2017 it probably has to start now. I’m expecting them to get home and get home comfortably – Raiders 13+ over the Thurstonless Cowboys.

Joey Leilua has been very average the last couple of rounds and I’m guessing Ricky has probably let him know his performances simply haven’t been up to scratch. With that being the case, expect him to come out firing and potentially collect the first 4 pointer of the game.

Outright Match Winner:

CANBERRA

Margin Betting

CANBERRA 13+

First Try Scorer:

JOEY LEILUA

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS vs WESTS TIGERS - Sunday afternoon 2pm, McDonald Jones Stadium

If you want to show your kids a fantastic game of rugby league football played at the highest level, this is NOT the game to do it!

This one is being billed as the battle for the wooden spoon, and rightly so! With a combined points differential of negative 323 this year, both these teams have copped some serious hidings. In saying that, there has to be a winner and I’m siding with the Knights. I reckon they showed enough last week against the Dragons to convince me that they are capable of beating the hapless Tigers.

One of the best bets of the week is this one to go over 45.5 points. Both sides are in the bottom 3 of the comp in points conceded. With the likes of Dane Gagai and James Tedesco running around there should be plenty of tries in this one.

Also, I’d suggest getting on Knights winger Brendan Elliot for first try scorer. He knows his way to the line and there should be plenty of space down the edge for him in this one.

Outright Match Winner:

KNIGHTS

Total Points Betting:

OVER 45.5 POINTS

First Try Scorer:

BRENDAN ELLIOT

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS vs PENRITH PANTHERS - Sunday afternoon 4pm, ANZ Stadium

Penrith, Penrith, Penrith! Get on is all I can say as this will be a slaughtering!

The Panthers are building nicely this season and look destined for a finals berth.

The less said about the Rabbitohs the better. They’ve been the disappointments of the year! Gee that 2014 premiership feels about 10 years ago now!

Let’s go Penrith 13+, Overs in total points and DWZ first try scorer!

Outright Match Winner:

PANTHERS

Margin Betting:

PANTHERS 13+

First Try Scorer:

DALLIN WATENE ZELEZNIAK
