CANTERBURY BULLDOGS vs PARRAMATTA EELS – Thursday 7.50pm, ANZ Stadium

How bad are the Doggies going! Seriously, they can’t get across the line, they can’t make a line-break to save their lives and they’re just boring as bat-s**t to watch! Parramatta, on the other hand, are actually becoming quite an exciting side and their run towards the finals is really gaining momentum.

The only problem here will be whether the Eels go in with the right attitude. They’ve received a lot of raps over the past week and you just have to worry it may have gone to their heads. They aren’t THAT good…

Still, there is no way I can tip the Dogs. They’re capable, but the style of football they are playing is terrible. Even with this being a big rivalry match, I just can’t see them posing much of a threat to Parra. I’m siding with the Eels 13+ and fancy a wager on Semi Radradra for first tryscorer – he’s hardly saluted as a first tryscorer this year so he is certainly due!

ST GEORGE DRAGONS vs SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS - Friday night 6pm, SCG

The Rabbitohs looked good against the Raiders last week. For the first 5 minutes that is, then they were horrendous! In saying that, the Dragons effort last week was, well, the less said about it probably the better. To be fair, they didn’t seem to have the rub of the green with the refs, so perhaps we can classify that game as a bit of a write-off.

I get the vibe Sam Burgess probably won’t play this game. He came off with a bit of a rib injury last week and there is really no point in risking him coming back too soon with the Rabbitohs out of finals contention. If he doesn’t play then I can’t really give Souths a chance of winning this game. It’s such an important fixture for the Dragons, they’re in 8th position now and are fighting for their finals life. Meanwhile, Souths are just going through the motions…

I think we have to go with the Dragons 13+, I can see them reproducing their effort from two weeks ago against Manly. For first tryscorer I like Paul Vaughan, he sure knows his way to the line and is at the sort of odds I like – BIG.

NQL COWBOYS vs MELBOURNE STORM - Friday 7.50pm, 1300SMILES Stadium

Despite being beaten last week, the Cowboys have been VERY good! However, the Storm have been SENSATIONAL, they look absolutely unstoppable. They were great last week, Cameron Smith was fantastic in game 35, Cooper Cronk was looking super sharp, and Billy Slater comes back into the team this week. I think taking the Storm at the minus 5.5 is a pretty safe bet. The Cowboys will be brave and they will try hard but the class of the Storm will prevail. For first tryscorer let’s stick with Vunivalu – he is a genius that fella.

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS vs NZ WARRIORS - Saturday 3.00pm, McDonald Jones Stadium

I’m going to tip the Warriors here for the first time in a long time, and I’ll tell you why – the Knights are due for a loss! They’ve won one on the trot so they are due for about 5 losses in a row!

The Warriors have been playing OK without being great. They do have a few in the injury ward but they’ve got enough talent on the park to account for Newcastle. Let’s side with them 1-12. For first tryscorer I think Tuivasa-Sheck is a good bet, he has been a bit quiet lately so shopping around you can get some pretty decent odds for him to dot down first.

WARRIORS

WARRIORS 1-12

GOLD COAST TITANS vs BRISBANE BRONCOS - Saturday 5.30pm, Cbus Super Stadium

I’m going for the upset here. I think the Titans should have beaten the Broncos the last time they played which was at Suncorp. They’ll want revenge on big brother here. The Broncos were a tad disappointing last week against the Eels. They’ve got a few players back this week including Corey Oates, however, I think that is all negated by the loss of Andrew McCullough.

It’s actually a really important game for the Broncos – if they lose they will lose touch with the top four. I think they might actually choke a bit knowing they are expected to win this one. Meanwhile, the Titans should lift and I can see them getting home. For a bit of value let’s go the Titans in the HT / FT double and I think Anthony Don is a great shout for first tryscorer – he’s a really good and underrated player.

CRONULLA SHARKS vs CANBERRA RAIDERS – Saturday 7.30pm, Southern Cross Stadium

I’m definitely a Sharks man in 2017 – I reckon they have a fantastic chance to go back to back. In saying that, I’m very nervous about this game! The Raiders beat them here last year and my ‘upset radar’ has perked up for this one…

I think you can forget about the Sharks flogging the Raiders down in Canberra earlier this year. That was one of those games where Cronulla could do no wrong and Canberra no right – I think this one will be a lot closer. I saw some signs of life in the Raiders last week, I reckon it’s close to the best they’ve played all season.

Whilst the Sharks get Jack Bird back this week, they are still missing Jimmy Maloney. They’ve had a number of narrow wins this year and I reckon this could be another one of them. In fact, I’m sensing that this one could even go to golden point, with the Sharks getting across the line in extra-time!

Still, the more conservative play that I like is the Raiders with the +4.5. It should be enough in what I’m expecting to be a tight struggle. For first tryscorer I think we have to go with the returning Jordan Rapana – what an outstanding athlete he is!

MANLY SEA EAGLES vs SYDNEY ROOSTERS – Sunday 2.00pm, Lottoland Stadium

Big game for both sides here. They’re both fighting for spots in the top 4 and in Manly’s case even the top 8 is no certainty. The Sea Eagles have lost their last two games by pretty significant margins and they must be running pretty low on confidence right at the moment.

For the Roosters, well they’re just a team that continue to get the job done when they are expected to. Despite still having a few players on the sidelines – including their captain Boyd Cordner – I think this is a game where they are deserved favourites.

Overall, I think siding with the Roosters 1-12 is the right play here. I’m pretty keen to go Manly / Roosters in the HT / FT double as they typically come out of the gates pretty quick but can fade. For first tryscorer, Tom Trbojevic is our man.

PENRITH PANTHERS vs WESTS TIGERS – Sunday 4.00pm, Pepper Stadium

I’ve tipped Penrith in just about every game they’ve played this year and they’ve done reasonably well for me. In all honesty, they haven’t been setting the world on fire recently, but the wins keep ticking over, which is very important at this stage of the season. It’s great to see Matt Moylan named in the squad and if he plays it will be a massive plus for the Panthers.

I definitely expect them to account for the Tigers pretty comfortably, although the $1.30 on offer is far too short. I think you need to go 13+ for a bit of value. There’s also some value about Isaah Yeo for first tryscorer, he knows his way to the line but just hasn’t found it in a while – love the odds on offer!
