Clive Churchill Medal NRL Preview & Betting Tips

Thu, 27 Sep, 12:00 AM

One of the more popular bets on NRL Grand Final Day is on the Clive Churchill Medal which is awarded to the best player on the ground.

Here, our expert runs the rule over some of the leading fancies this Sunday.

The champion fullback has won the Churchill twice previously and will be aiming to create history by becoming the first player to win it three times in the modern era. After escaping suspension for a shoulder charge on Tuesday and winning the Wally Lewis Medal for the Queenslander’s this year despite losing the Origin series, anything is possible with this man.

One of the game’s greatest ever players has won pretty much everything – expect a Clive Churchill Medal. If Melbourne win, it’s his game management that will arguably get them over the line. Have something on him.

A lot will hinge on his shoulders if the Roosters are to win their first premiership since 2013. The gun fullback was one of the main reasons NSW won State Of Origin this year. He is the last line of defence and first point of attack. Teddy can win this.

The Roosters captain is the value bet in this market. Is a tireless soldier, has no self preservation and his experience and leadership will take the chooks a long way.

It’s not too often that forwards win this award but Kaufusi has had a fantastic finals series and another huge performance may just get him the Clive Churchill.

WINNER: Cameron Smith

VALUE: Boyd Cordner AND Felise Kaufusi
