Cronulla Sharks 2019 NRL Season Preview & Analysis
The Sharks are looking to put their off-field issues behind them in 2019.
Finished in 2018: 4th (16 wins, 8 losses)
Key ins: Josh Morris (Bulldogs), Shaun Johnson (Warriors)
Key outs: Jesse Ramien & Edrick Lee (Knights), Ricky Leutele (Toronto), Valentine Holmes (NFL), James Segeyaro (Released), Luke Lewis (Retired)
Coach: John Morris
Captain(s): Paul Gallen & Wade Graham
Summary: The Sharks can’t seem to catch a break. Each season they seem to encounter off-field drama leaving people talking more about what’s happening off the pitch, than what’s on it. Rookie head coach John Morris steps in to fill the shoes of deregistered coach Shane Flanagan. Morris faces a tough first coaching experience with the Sharks boasting one of the most talented yet unpredictable locker rooms in the league. When will we see the first Fifita rant of 2019? How will Shaun Johnson work with Chad Townsend? Will Moylan cause drama if he doesn’t play in the halves? How will the team fill the void left by Valentine Holmes? So many questions which will hurt the Shark’s chances of playing deep into the finals.
Key stat: The Sharks ranked #4 in tries scored and #2 in linebreaks and post-contact metres in 2018.
