NRL Magic Round: 5 Best Bets
For the first time in NRL history, every match in one round will be played at a single venue when Brisbane's Suncorp hosts Magic Round.
Gold Coast Titans v Cronulla Sharks
The tip: Cronulla halftime/fulltime
Why: The Sharks are on a roll following their inspirational Melbourne win last start, while the 2-6 Titans have trailed at halftime in each of their six losses this season. Look for Cronulla to exploit the Titans’ shaky confidence with a controlling performance.
Manly Sea Eagles v Brisbane Broncos
The tip: Corey Oates anytime tryscorer
Why: “Scorey” has seven tries in his last four matches against Manly – including a four try blitz in their last match. With Anthony Seibold reshuffling his backline, expect Oates to get even more chances to score.
Melbourne Storm v Parramatta Eels
The tip: Melbourne to win second half
Why: Melbourne were given an almighty serve by coach Craig Bellamy after their Cronulla loss – expect them to come home strongly after being called “crap” by Bellyache. In the Storm’s last four wins, they’ve won the second half every time.
Sydney Roosters v Canberra Raiders
The tip: Roosters 9+ halftime
Why: The key to the Roosters’ best season start since 1999 have been their explosive first halves. They’ve won every first half in 2019 by an average margin of 12 points. And with Latrell Mitchell on fire, expect another hot start from the Tricolours in Brisbane.
South Sydney Rabbitohs v North Queensland Cowboys
The tip: Cody Walker anytime tryscorer
Why: If Latrell Mitchell is NRL’s most in-form player, then Cody Walker is breathing down his neck. Walker has had an incredible 2019, highlighted by a tryscoring rate putting others to shame. He's scored nine tries this season already to be NRL’s leading try scorer heading into Magic Round.
