We’ve done the hard yards to give you a best bet and a value bet for 1st try scorer for both the Queensland Maroons and New South Wales Blues.

Queensland

Best bet: Dane Gagai ($12* – Sportsbet) has taken over from Darius Boyd as the always reliable Queensland tryscorer regardless of club form. Gagai’s shown he is a different tryscoring proposition altogether once he puts on a Maroon jersey. Case in point – he’s scored 10 tries in his last 81 NRL appearances, compared to nine tries in nine starts as a Queensland winger. Gagai also has history being a first tryscorer at Origin (game 2, 2016). Look for the Maroons to rely on him to settle nerves early on.

Value bet: Cameron Munster ($26* – Sportsbet) is a brilliant ball runner who loves the Origin stage. He’s scored five tries for the Storm this year including first tryscorer two times already. If Munster sees a chance to back himself against the Blues’ defence there’s no doubt the five-eighth will take it.

New South Wales

Best bet: Josh Addo-Carr ($9.50* – Sportsbet) has nine tries in his last eight starts for the Storm – including being first tryscorer last weekend - and made himself at home in his debut Origin series last year, scoring in each of his first two matches. Having Latrell Mitchell inside leaves the Fox in a great position to finish off New South Wales left-edge attacks

Value bet: Damien Cook ($34* – Sportsbet) is the most threatening dummy-half in the game and comes into Origin in electric form. The Souths hooker has scored two tries in his last three games and could capitalise if Queensland markers have their eyes elsewhere.
