The Wallabies will be hoping to spring an almighty upset over the All Blacks when the sides line up for the first of their three Bledisloe Cup Tests this Saturday.
Despite losing six of the past seven trans-Tasman meetings, Michael Cheika’s charges will be buoyed by the last result between the rivals (23-18 to Australia, 21/10/17) as well as a parochial home crowd of about 60,000.
Entering the clash with a heavy Waratahs influence, the Green & Gold’s backline packs plenty of potency with Kurtley Beale, Bernard Foley, Israel Folau and Will Genia all expected to start. To that end, Folau looks set to be a popular pick for first tryscorer with the code-hopping star entering this with three tries to his name across the Tahs’ final four games of the Super Rugby season.
The All Blacks defensive line won’t be easily broken down however and it is worth noting that in their six games since losing to this foe last year, the Kiwis haven’t conceded more than 18.5 points in a game with their opposition failing to score at least 15 points in each of their past three Tests. Alarmingly for the Aussies, New Zealand average 36.6 points in attack across the same period
Still, the $4.70 odds on the Wallabies are a tempting proposition after their strong performances in a losing series to the highly-regarded Irish a few months ago. For those not willing to take the plunge however, perhaps consider Australia at line (+10.5 points) given they have not been beaten by more than five points in each of their past six Tests at home.
Best Bet: Wallabies (Line)
Value Bet: Australia / New Zealand (Half / Full Double)
