Phoenix slumped to their third defeat in three games at home to Victory last weekend and they find themselves with nothing left to play for this season except to wrestle 8th spot off the Jets, whom they trail by two points. The Wanderers, meanwhile, recorded only their third win in nine as they won at home to the Mariners to climb up to third ahead of the final round of fixtures.

Phoenix have now lost 11 of their last 15, conceding at least twice in 11 of these games and trailing at the break in nine. Their home record this season is W4-D2-L6 but five of their defeats have come in their last six matches and they’ve managed only six goals in their last eight at the Westpac Stadium. When hosting top-four sides this term their record is an impressive W3-D1-L1, with their only defeat coming against Adelaide, though that was in their most recent such home game and it was a heavy 4-0 loss.

After a spell of seven straight wins early on in the season, the Wanderers have unsurprisingly failed to maintain that form and have certainly tailed off in recent weeks as their only wins in their last nine have come against the struggling Mariners and Jets and at home to Perth. Their away record this season is W5-D4-L4 and four of their five wins have come at the Jets and Mariners.

Phoenix are without their defensive midfielder Albert Riera after he picked up his second red card of the season and Wellington have lost all three matches without him since the start of last season, including this term at the Mariners and at home to Perth. The Wanderers have an excellent record when travelling to the bottom teams and are a fair price at 1.73 to win here, but we’re siding with them -1 on the Asian Handicap. As well as losing 4-1 against Victory last week, Phoenix have lost 4-0 to Adelaide and even 3-1 to the Mariners at home recently and another heavy defeat could be on the cards.

Recommendation: Western Sydney -1 Asian Handicap at 2.23

BOOSTED PRICE: Mitch Nichols to score a goal and Western Sydney Wanderers win. $5 with ladbrokes.
