Sydney FC are looking the goods to continue their recent domination over Central Coast when they meet on Friday night.
The Sky Blues have gone eight games without losing to the Mariners and adding a ninth game to that tally looks a pretty good bet here.
Sydney FC are coming off a solid but impressive 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory which has all but secured the Premier’s Plate.
Central Coast go into this with just one point in their past three matches which has left their finals hope dangling by a thread.
Sydney’s historic run this season has been built off a solid foundation at home.
Graham Arnold’s side is the only team in the competition yet to lose at home and have won seven of their 10 games at the venue.
Even more impressive than that has been the work of defence which has kept six clean sheets during those 10 matches and only conceded four goals.
Sydney FC are paying $2.10 with Sportsbet to keep yet another opponent scoreless at Moore Park.
There is no doubt last year’s wooden spooners have improved significantly under Paul Okon.
Notching three straight wins just a matter of weeks ago, which is something the Mariners hadn’t done for a few seasons, they have now fallen into a rut with two losses and a draw in their past three.
Once again the effort has been there from Central Coast in losses to the Victory and last week against City but they need to take their chances when they come. That wasn’t the case against Newcastle in the F3 Derby a fortnight ago and as a result they shared the points.
If they are to be any chance here they need to give quality service to top scorer Roy O’Donovan (10 goals).
Sydney are unbeaten in their past eight against the Mariners and have won both contests this season by an aggregate score of 7-2.
While that seems lopsided it is exasperated by the 4-0 win early in the season. Their last meeting, back in Round 14, saw Sydney escape with a 3-2 win on the Central Coast in fairly dubious circumstances. It is the only time Sydney FC has conceded more than one goal in a match in 2016/17.
Everything is pointing to a Sydney FC win here.
The league leaders are coming into this off back-to-back wins against the powerhouse Melbourne sides and are playing at their home ground which has become a fortress this season. Last term, they collected just 19 points at Allianz while this time around they already have 24.
Central Coast is registering barely a goal a game in away fixtures and they definitely need more than that if they are to score one of the upsets of the season here.
The only danger to Sydney not securing all three points is that they are coming off a high after beating City and Victory and could drop their guard a little. If that is the case then expect the Mariners to give them trouble like they did last time out.
TOTAL GOALS OVER/UNDER 3.5:
OVER 3.5 – we predict another high scoring affair as the average total goals has been 4.66 the past six times they have clashed
BOBO – did the job for us last week and is a big chance to do it again. Has scored in each of Sydney’s past three wins
