Brisbane will continue to push for a top four spot when they host the Mariners in the final game of Round 25.
John Aloisi’s men have a chance to secure a home final in the first week of the playoffs but they cannot afford to drop points so this will definitely give them something to aim at.
Last week they took advantage of a weakened Victory to win 1-0 while the Mariners suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Adelaide to see them slip to the bottom of the table.
Coach John Aloisi would like to see some consistency for his side heading into the finals.
Their season has been defined by streaks but of late they have been alternating losses and wins. Their two recent wins have been against Newcastle and Melbourne Victory but their defeats have been to lowly Adelaide and Wellington.
While Aloisi has done a remarkable job to fix their leaky defence (30 goals in 24 games) and has them as the third best in the league in that department, they have leaked too many goals of late. Last week’s effort against the Victory was their first clean sheet in five A-league appearances.
BACK TO THE BOTTOM
Central Coast has played too well to be at the bottom of the A-league table, however, that is the predicament they find themselves in once again.
Last year’s cellar dwellers have improved markedly on their efforts last season but a recent slump of four defeats in five sees them trailing Adelaide by a point. Their dip in form has coincided with the Reds winning three of their past five.
Strangely, the Mariners have conceded a goal pattern of three, one, three, one and three in their past five games so on form they are due to cop at least one this time around.
It’s all good news for punters wanting to back Brisbane here.
The Roar have won the last seven games against Central Coast and scored an average of 2.6 goals during this run. These results are skewed heavily towards the home side when factoring in matches at Suncorp Stadium with 12 goals being scored by the Roar in the last three fixtures.
There is some value to be found in the Total Goals Over/Under market here with $2.11 currently on offer for Over 3.5 with Sportsbet.
You can’t go past Brisbane in this.
While the Mariners have been feisty this season, they always seem to find a way to get beaten and that isn’t the quality you want to see in a side that you’re putting your hard earned on.
Brisbane aren’t playing great so this could be a tight one but with Nick Montgomery missing for the visitors, their squad will be stretched and as such we can’t see them getting the money here.
