It’s first versus last but there’s still plenty at stake when these two sides clash.

Sydney FC still have hopes of setting a new regular season points tally and if they are to achieve that then they need the three points here. They go into the game off the back of a 1-1 draw against the Phoenix in New Zealand.

Newcastle has completely fallen off a cliff and face a huge task here after losing 2-nil in the F3 Derby last week which has now put them on the bottom of the table.

Sydney FC has clearly been the best team all season.

They have won 19 games, drawn six and lost just once but the majority of their success has been built off the back of an incredible defence, which has leaked just an average of 0.46 goals per game.

With the league’s best defence, it has allowed the strikers to do their job with the Sky Blues also boasting the most goals of any side in the A-league (53).

There is no other way to describe Newcastle’s performances of late other than to say they have been disgraceful.

It’s hard to believe how far they’ve fallen away after looking some chance of playing finals two months ago. They head into this having been held scoreless in four straight games while conceding 17 goals during their current five-game skid.

Bet365 is paying $2.20 for the Jets to draw a blank again!

SYDNEY FC has completely dominated this fixture.

Graham Arnold’s side hasn’t lost in the past 12 clashes and during that span they have kept an incredible 10 clean sheets. Sydney has also won the past seven games between the sides.

The fact this match is at Allianz Stadium makes a stronger case for Sydney as they have kept the Jets scoreless in their past five games at the venue.

We cannot see anything other than a Sydney win ($1.27 @ Unibet).

They have all the motivation in the world to get the three points and have been near invincible at home, winning nine of 12 and drawing three others while conceding just four goals.

Newcastle are in their worst run of form for the season and are the league’s worst road team, winning just twice in 13 fixtures while conceding an average of 2.46 goals per game when traveling.

Everything points to a Sydney win here with the only thing motivating the Jets is the fear of collecting the wooden spoon, however, form and statistics indicate that even that won’t be enough to get them an unlikely victory.

SYDNEY FC 2-0 CORRECT SCORE: Have beaten Newcastle by that exact score in their past three games
