Can table-toppers Liverpool maintain their momentum at Wembley?

Saturday’s clash between Spurs and Liverpool has mouth-watering potential: goals galore for both sides and an opportunity to lay down an early marker in the title race. Tottenham’s perfect start to the season came to a stuttering halt at Vicarage Road, where their tame 2-1 defeat suggests that some of their lingering issues still remain; being overrun in midfield by Watford – who admittedly boast impressive players in the middle of the park themselves – was a concerning sight.

Liverpool maintained their own flawless start away at Leicester – despite Alisson’s best efforts. Leicester gave Liverpool a good game, though their path back into the match was a gift, but a trip to Tottenham (well, Wembey, but you get the picture) is Jurgen Klopp’s first true test of the season against a top-six rival.

Last season dished up a couple of treats when these two sides met: Spurs demolishing Liverpool 4-1 at home before that pulsating 2-2 draw at Anfield, where Mo Salah scored a goal-of-the-season contender and Harry Kane netted that last minute penalty after previously missing one.

This will likely be entertaining throughout. Klopp will go to Wembley to win, and Tottenham will see Liverpool as a potential scalp to get their title-winning-belief back once again. I’m thinking it’ll end up somewhere in the middle, and both teams to score and the match to end in a draw is my first tip.

The winners of the last three Premier League Golden Boots will take to the field on Saturday (Kane and Salah of course) as well as the winner of the last World Cup Golden Boot. This one will not end 0-0, I’ll tell you that at least!

Kane has five goals against Liverpool so far in his career – three of which came last season – and once again he’ll be Spurs’ main goal threat against Liverpool.

The England man loves scoring on the big occasion, and I’m tipping him to score at any time against Liverpool.

If you cast your mind back to last February, more and more bits of that epic 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Spurs at Anfield will flit back into your minds: Wanyama’s absolute rocket, Loris Karius saving Harry Kane’s 86th minute penalty, Salah slaloming his way through Spurs’ defence to seal the match in extra-time – or so he thought – before Kane equalised with another penalty with the last kick of the game.

Wow…that made me breathless writing about it.

Anyway, my little recap all leads towards my final tip: a penalty to be awarded in the match. This should be another thrilling, high-octane encounter – befitting of two exciting, ambitious teams – and with six penalties awarded in the last nine meetings between these two, it could be a very astute bet indeed.
