UEFA CL Thursday Morning Best Bets - Matchday 2
It's multi time! Tuck into your $7 three-fold for Thursday's Champions League action.
PSV v Inter Milan
Inter Milan celebrated their long-awaited return to the Champions League with a thrilling victory over Tottenham at the San Siro, and they’ll look to tighten their grip on the qualification spots in Group B at the Philips Stadion against PSV Eindhoven.
The Dutch side were tonked 4-0 by Barcelona at the Nou Camp two weeks ago – not that there’s much shame in this– but I’m backing them to get something against Inter. The Eredivisie champions have won all seven of their league matches this season, including a 3-0 home win against Ajax, and will know this is a must-win game if they want to have any chance of progressing at all.
Inter still look a little inconsistent as well; they were firmly on the back foot before their equaliser against Spurs, and it appeared that the wave of emotion and passion that stemmed from the crowd pushed the Inter players on to victory.
PSV are a better side than people give them credit for, and they’ll cause Inter problems all night. I’m going for a draw.
Dortmund v Monaco
The Bundesliga leaders face 18th in Ligue 1: no, it’s not Bayern Munich v Caen in a pre-season friendly, it’s Borussia Dortmund v Monaco in the Champions League.
While Dortmund have enjoyed a great start to the season, Monaco have been inexplicably poor – one win all season, which was against Nantes on the opening day, has left manager Leonardo Jardim scratching his head.
Their 2-1 home defeat to Atletico Madrid has immediately put them on the back foot in this group, and should they lose at Westfalenstadion, they can start kissing their chances of qualification goodbye.
It’s the perfect time to play Monaco, so this strong Dortmund side should win comfortably.
Porto v Galatasaray
Finally, I’m backing Porto to beat Galatasaray. This is the Turkish champions’ first European outing since 2015, and their trip to Estádio do Dragão is looking very tough; Porto handily beat RB Leipzig and Monaco there last season, and will fancy qualifying from a group also containing Schalke and Lokomotiv Moscow.
In nip-and-tuck European matches like these, containing two sides who both fancy getting a result, plumping with the home side is normally the wise move.
Porto to win is my final pick for this three-fold multi, which comes in at $7.
