The Reds get the benefit of playing back-to-back home games to start the season and that might be the deciding factor in this match.
Adelaide played out a 1-1 draw with Sydney at this venue last week after taking the lead just before half-time. They have a good record against Newcastle at Coopers, winning three of the past four clashes against them in South Australia.
The Jets have traditionally struggled to put goals in the back of the net at Coopers with just four goals in seven matches at the ground.
Taking all that into account, Adelaide looks a good bet here.
Melbourne City has found the perfect team to play in their attempt to go two-for-two to start the A-league season.
City has dominated this fixture and haven’t lost their past nine clashes against the Central Coast. In fact, they have won four of the past six against them with the other two results being 2-2 draws.
With City coming off a high in the Melbourne Derby over the weekend, we think they will leave the Hunter region with the three points here.
The Derby has been a goalfest of late.
You would normally think that a heated rivalry such as the Sydney Derby would see defence win out first and foremost, however, that hasn’t been the case in their past four clashes. An average of four goals per game has been scored in this fixture in the past 12 months.
Sydney FC has been the dominant partner here with eight wins from their past 13 against the Wanderers including four on the trot, the latest of which was a 3-nil result in the FFA Cup semis just a few weeks ago.
All things considered, Sydney FC is our bet here as they’ve had the wood on the Wanderers for quite some time and you have to go back nearly 18 months to see the Red and Black’s last win against the Sky Blues. Go for Sydney FC to win and take the Total Goals Over 2.5.
Wellington will be out to create history when they travel to Suncorp Stadium.
The Phoenix come into the game having beaten Newcastle 2-1 last week but have never won their opening two games of an A-league campaign ever!
Rookie coach Mark Rudan has his work cut out in Wellington though as his side won just once on the road last season.
The bet that we like here though is the Draw as the last three times these teams have met, they have split the points.
Kevin Muscat’s side can get their first win of the season when they host Perth on Sunday night.
The champions suffered defeat in the Melbourne Derby 2-1 last week but playing at home against a side that doesn’t traditionally travel all that well suggests that Melbourne will be winning this.
It helps the Victory that have had the wood on their rivals in Melbourne too, with the last time Perth taking the points on the eastern seaboard being three years ago.
So it’s Melbourne Victory to win for us and if you want a bit more value, go for the 1-nil scoreline as that has been the final result in the past two fixtures between the teams (one win apiece).
