Chelsea v West Ham Tips & Betting Preview
Can Chelsea crank up the pressure in this race for the top four?
Maurizio Sarri must feel like a bit of a prat. After finally adhering to the fans’ demands and fielding the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek against Brighton, his side put in a dominant, winning display – a far cry from the shambles we saw against Cardiff.
Yes, Brighton are a poor side, but it’s been a while since we saw that level of pace, hunger and quality from this Chelsea outfit; could this be a turning point of Sarri’s fortunes?
When I saw Chelsea’s next opponents were West Ham, I automatically assumed the mercurial Hammers were great candidates to spring an upset; then I looked at their away form.
One point from their last six Premier League games on the road makes for sorry reading, but I was surprised to see they’ve also scored just once during this run. It’s a relief for Manuel Pellegrini that his side have finally started performing at The London Stadium.
My first tip is for Chelsea to win to nil.
The Blues have kept 13 clean sheets this season – behind only Liverpool and Manchester City – which is handy considering The Hammers’ inability to find the net on the road.
Next, I’m tipping either two or three goals to be scored.
67% of West Ham’s away games have seen either two or three goals scored, which is slightly higher than Chelsea’s two-or-three-goal-rate at Stamford Bridge (50%).
Chelsea games have generally been quite dull this season, and while I’m hoping for a few MNF fireworks, I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
It’s a Monday night, a London Derby - he’s up against Eden Hazard.
I’m backing Pablo Zabaleta to be shown a card.
Only Robert Snodgrass and Mark Noble have seen yellow more often than Zabaleta this season in a West Ham shirt, and he’s a tempting little price to have his name taken once again.
