Nations League Final Tips & Betting Preview
We've got four tips for the clash between Portugal and the Netherlands.
Portugal v Netherlands
The culmination of the inaugural Portugal is hoping to clinch another trophy after winning the Euros in 2016.
On home soil, and with the one-man-wrecking machine that is Cristiano Ronaldo, it’s surely set up for the hosts to prevail.
Or is it? Portugal has only lost one game in their previous 11 battles with the Dutch, although the only blemish during that time period is their most recent encounter when Ronald Koeman’s men ran out 3-0 winners last year.
In terms of star quality, the Seleção das Quinas aren’t in short supply. Do I even have to explain the case for Ronaldo? A dazzling hat-trick on the big stage is synonymous with the Juventus forward, who loves turning up at the business end.
Speaking of hat-tricks, Portugal’s Joao Felix burst into the mainstream with three stunning goals in the Europa League this season – and is expected to line up alongside CR7 on Sunday.
There’s a case to be made for almost all of Portugal’s starting XI having quality individual seasons for their respective clubs. Rui Patricio and Ruben Neves for Wolves, Bernardo Silva for Man City, and the aforementioned Felix for Benfica.
A gruelling 120 minutes against a young, fit and energetic England side will surely have taken a toll on the Dutch, especially Gini Wijnaldum and Virgil van Dijk, and I can see another tough test on the horizon.
Cristiano Ronaldo dispatched the Swiss in fine fettle, and I can see a similar performance on the big stage for the second greatest player of all time.
Portugal is currently $2.40 to win in 90 minutes against a tired Dutch outfit, and I’m having three points on that.
For the cover, the hosts are $1.75* to lift the trophy, which I’ll be having five points on. I’m also having a nibble on Ronaldo to open the scoring at $4.50* and to score a brace at $7.50*.
