The A-league is finally back! With the NRL and AFL seasons finishing in recent weeks, the sporting void has been filled with the return of the soccer.

Can Glory top the table again? And will newcomers Western United make an instant impact on the league? We take a look at what to expect from the opening weekend, and have picked out two pretty tasty multis…

Adelaide v Sydney FC

The season gets underway with a belter on Friday night. Sydney travels to Adelaide for what should be a very tight contest.

The Odds

Sydney FC is the slight favourite and can be backed at $2.50 best odds. The home side is $2.95, and the draw can be backed at $3.80.

The Early Betting

Punters are favouring the home team ahead of Friday nights clash, which almost 65% of bets being placed on an Adelaide win.

The Bet

Home form let Adelaide United down last season, they only managed six wins from their 14 games. Sydney’s away form was the third-best in the league in 2018/19, and they have a remarkable record against their opposition. Sydney FC is undefeated in their last nine A-league games against Friday’s opposition.

Both teams to score and draw: $4.33

Western Sydney Wanderers v Central Coast Mariners

Two teams who flatter deceive last season will be looking to get their year off to a bang in the first of two Saturday games.

The Odds

Wester Sydney Wanderers are the resounding favourites at $1.85. An away win can be backed at $4.60 and a draw at $4.10.

The Early Betting

It will be no shock to find that punters are avoiding any kind of play on Central Coast Mariners. The betting definitely points towards a WSW win.

The Bet

The Mariners shipped in 35 goals away from home last season and only managed to collect five points. There was a goal in the first half in 100% of WSW home games last season, and their home games averaged 2.93 goals.

Western Sydney Wanderers to score in both halves: $2.37

Melbourne Victory v Melbourne City

The Melbourne Derby is an unbelievably good way to start the season. The 3rd and 4th favourites for the Premiership feature in the game of the weekend.

The Odds

Victory just shade the odds and can be backed at $2.60, City is $3.05 and the draws $3.50.

The Betting

The punters are struggling to pick a clear winner in Saturday’s late kick-off. Victory is leading the betting, but it’s very close.

The Bet

Victory entertained at home last season, bagging 27 goals, the second most in the league. However, they’ve not beaten City in their last three attempts. This game normally promises goals and plenty of bookings. Despite the recent record, Victory looks the stronger team to me and look value at $2.60.

Melbourne Victory to win $2.60

Friday/Saturday Multi

• Both teams to score and draw

• Western Sydney Wanderers to score in both halves

• Melbourne Victory wins

Wellington Phoenix v Western United

Despite a relatively poor finish to the season Wellington Phoenix managed to finish inside the top eight. They take on a completely new proposition on Sunday in the shape of Western United.

The Odds

It’s another very tight market, but A-league newcomers have been made the $2.43 favourites. Phoenix can be backed at $2.90, and the draw is currently $3.55.

The Early Betting

The Australian public must be impressed by the recruitment made by Western United, as they dominate the early betting for the fixture.

The Bet

This is a pretty tricky one to judge given the two sides, but a mixture of Western United needing to gel and Wellington’s home record I’m siding with a Phoenix win.

Wellington Phoenix to win $2.90

Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar

The final game of the round sees Brisbane Roar travel to take on last year’s Premiers.

The Odds

It’s no shock to see Glory leading the market, the corporates have them at $1.85 to win. Brisbane Roar are currently $5.25 and the draw is $4.10.

The Early Betting

The early money replicates the odds, with the majority of Aussie punters taking the $1.85 on the Glory.

The Bet

Looking at last year’s records the $1.85 looks cracking value! Glory won 10 of their 14 home games, and Roar only managed one win on the road. Brisbane Roar games averaged a massive 4.04 goals last season. This could be a very easy win for Perth and the punters.

Perth Glory -1: $2.80

Sunday multi

• Wellington Phoenix wins

• Perth Glory -1
