Roger Federer will once again grace Rod Laver Arena when he takes on 29th seed Richard Gasquet in a 3rd Round battle. An exciting day is also scheduled on the women’s side of the draw, with Ashleigh Barty’s match against Naomi Osaka the undoubted highlight for local audiences.

Federer vs. Gasquet

Frenchman Richard Gasquet isn’t expected to trouble Roger Federer too much when they meet tonight in the Round of 32. This pair has played against each other on 18 occasions with the reigning Australian Open champ victorious in 16 of those matches. What’s more, Gasquet hasn’t registered a win over Federer since 2011 and has never beaten the 19-time Grand Slam winner on a hard court surface. Although the value on Gasquet is eye catching after his impressive displays in the opening two rounds of the tournament (he’s won through in straight sets), it’s tough to hop off the Fed Express and we’re backing the Swiss to wrap this up convincingly.

Key Stat: It’s been over six years since Gasquet took a set off Federer.

Our tip: Federer with Total Games to be under 31.5

Barty vs. Osaka

Ashleigh Barty has shown plenty of resilience already this tournament, fighting back from a set down in both her matches. Her opponent for the Round of 32 however has not dropped a single set and is high on confidence. Ranked 68th in the world, Osaka impressed in her last round match sending down eight aces and winning 82% of points when she landed her first serve. In that respect, there’ll be plenty willing to have a nibble on the generous $3+ odds for an Osaka win, but most are expected to back the Aussie to progress to her first Round of 16 in a Grand Slam event.

Key Stat: Ashleigh Barty won the only previous meeting between the pair (6-2, 6-4)

Our tip: Barty to win with the first set to be over 9.5 games.
