Punters could have won an extra £25m betting the Cheltenham Festival 2021

Recent studies suggest that up to 80% of shoppers will compare prices before purchasing any given item.

Whether it’s car insurance, flights to a sunny country or the big food shop – savvy consumers will often do their homework to ensure they get the best deal.

So, it begs the question – why would you not do it with sports betting?

As the leading price comparison site for betting, we crunched the numbers to work out exactly how much money punters missed out on by not using oddschecker.

oddschecker collated data from 21 of the major bookmakers in the country, calculated the total amount staked on the Festival, the amount on each winning horse plus analysed the odds available.

Punters could have won a whopping £25m extra when betting on horses to win at the Cheltenham Festival last year, simply by taking the best price.

Furthermore, the average price difference per race between the average and best price was two points, meaning punters missed out on an extra £20 for every winning £10 staked.

For example, take Ryanair Chase winner Allaho last year. According to an oddschecker investigation, the industry average price on the Mullins horse was 4/1.

Compare that to the best price of just over 6/1, and you can see the two-point difference in a real-life example.

In layman’s terms, that’s an extra £20 for every £10 staked, £40 for every £20 staked and so on.

It pays to use oddschecker.
