Sporting Life Preview

A potentially-informative maiden which sees the introduction under Rules of winning pointers Birchdale, Hes No Trouble and La Cavsa Nostra. The former now runs in the JP McManus colours and has joined Nicky Henderson who also runs Clarendon Street, who is certain to improve for the switch to hurdling having had just the one run in a bumper. Talktomenow has also won between the flags and was second in a Plumpton hurdle last month which has worked out well. Johnbb ran green in a Market Rasen bumper last month and may need more time but any market support for the returning Kingsplace, Dara's Present or Machiato should be noted. SAMBURU SHUJAA is a little exposed but does boast the best hurdles form on offer having come up against a smart prospect over track and trip last month – he gets one more chance.

Oddschecker Verdict

Nicky Henderson holds a strong hand here and it is somewhat noticeable that Barry Geraghty makes the trip over from Ireland for just the one ride aboard point winner BIRCHDALE, who makes his debut under Rules. Seven Barrows stablemate Clarendon Street wasn't beaten far on his only start when fourth in a competitive bumper at the Punchestown Festival, and is another making his debut for the champion trainer in this contest. Dual point winner La Cavsa Nostra is interesting back under Rules and Noel Fehily is a positive in the saddle, while Talktomenow bumped into the impressive Getaway Trump at Plumpton, but had some useful rivals well held behind him and should be capable of playing a part.

Prediction: 1st Birchdale, 2nd Clarendon Street, 3rd Talktomenow
