Prior to last night's thrashing of Celtic at the Nou Camp, Cristiano Ronaldo was the narrow 3/1 favourite to be the Champions League top goalscorer, with Messi and Suarez just behind.
After a sublime hat-trick from Messi and a brace from Suarez, Ronaldo's odds have moved out to 5/1. Messi is the favourite at best odds 11/4 and Suarez just behind him at best odds 57/17. Messi's injury troubles of last season are probably the reason he was a bigger pre-tournament price.
Ronaldo will have the chance to catch up tonight, when Real Madrid take on his old club Sporting Lisbon. Having scored on his return to action against Osasuna at the weekend, he will be keen to really get his campaign going in the Champions League tonight. If he scores at least a couple he could be back to being favourite by tomorrow morning.
If Messi stays fit and keeps up last night's form the race to be top scorer could be very interesting with Messi, currently on 86 total goals, trying to catch Ronaldo, who is on 94 total goals in the Champions League. With no one else seriously in the running, apart from Lewandowski at 9/1, this season's top scorer market could be hugely volatile with Messi, Ronaldo and Suarez all on top form.
