A big result for Jose Mourinho's side not enough to sway punters from backing against a Red Devils charge
Man United got themselves a big result as Jesse Lingard secured all three points for the Red Devils, beating Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday.
It’s a score line that puts six points between United and fifth place, but punters are still backing Jose Mourinho’s side to be the club that misses out on Champions League qualification at the end of the season.
United have drifted out to 8/1 from 3s this morning, but punters may feel that there is value in that price, as 60% of bets on the ‘Not to finish Top 4’ market have gone on Jose’s squad!
Chelsea meanwhile are 4/7 in places to miss out on Europe’s premier competition for the second time in three seasons. You can get 10/11 however, a price which will not cheer up any fans of the Blues, who may well be getting a new manager sooner rather than later, with Antonio Conte just 3/1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post, in from 5/1 this morning.
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “Chelsea have had the week from hell, first losing an away goal to Barcelona in the Champions League and then a damaging defeat at Man United. However, punters would rather take the potential value in 8/1 for United to miss out on the Top 4, rather than the odds-on shot in the Blues. With plenty more twists to come, could United conceivably throw it away from here?”
