What a statement of intent this would be…
Bookmakers have cut odds on veteran striker Edinson Cavani joining Leeds United, for their first season back in the Premier League after 16 years.
Reports of the sensational switch surfaced recently, and punters have prompted bookies to cut odds on the move happening from 12/1 into just 4/1.
Two bookies have cut odds even further on the move, into as short as 11/4.
That means Leeds are now second-favourites to secure Cavani’s services, with only Roma (3/1) the more likely destination.
Money has been backing the proposed move to Yorkshire, with 48% of all bets on Cavani’s next club placed over the last week, all backing Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
A move across the pond is the next most likely destination for the Uruguayan hitman, with any MLS club 6/1 fourth favourite.
Any Chinese club is next in the betting at 15/2, followed by two Premier League sides in the form of Manchester United (10/1) and Chelsea (12/1).
The Turkish league follows next at 12/1, with Nuno Espirito Santos’ Wolves rounding off the market at 20/1.
Leading football stats site, WhoScored.com, revealed that Cavani is PSG’s all-time record goalscorer, with a perfectly round 200 goals for the club.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “There’s an air of excitement from neutral fans over Leeds United’s return to the Premier League, with Edinson Cavani the first major name linked with a move.
“The betting market suggests there’s certainly a chance Marcelo Bielsa brings the Uruguayan man in, with odds continuing to tumble on the move.”
