A very small percentage of Oddschecker punters backed the winner, who had some huge pre-race prices!
There was a huge shock in the 1000 Guineas this afternoon, as the outsider of the lot Billesdon Brook held off the challenge of several bigger names to win the prestigious race for Richard Hannon – Who won the 2000 Guineas three years ago with Night Of Thunder in equally shocking circumstances.
It was no fluke either as the 66/1 shot kicked on three out and held off the challenge of Laurens who closed the gap but could not get past. She becomes the biggest priced winner in 1000 Guineas history and such a boilover meant that only a select few punters were celebrating.
Just 3% of punters had gone for the horse ridden by Sean Levey, well behind the most backed horse, which was Soliloquy (14%).
To put it in perspective, you could have a biggest pre-race price of 125/1 – odds that are bigger than some bookies prices on Everton winning the Premier League next year!
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Billesdon Brook – If future success does come for her, it will certainly be at a price shorter than what she was today.
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “There wouldn’t have been many people on the Rowley Mile cheering on Billesdon Brook, but she showed a fantastic turn of foot to win the 1000 Guineas and make a mockery of her 66/1 pre-race price. Hats off to the 3% of Oddschecker punters who backed her, I’m sure they are going to have a Bank Holiday weekend to remember!”
