English rock band, Elbow are the lucky act who have been handpicked to star in the long awaited John Lewis Christmas advert. The band will be hoping for more success than last year’s featured band, The Vaults. Even though the 2016 advert starring Buster the boxer was deemed a success, The Vaults only managed a high of 53 in the charts.
Despite the advert only being released today by John Lewis, Paddy Power must have been tipped off by the band featuring in the advert earlier this week. The bookmaker installed Elbow in the Christmas number one market on Tuesday at 6/1, a day later, Skybet priced “The John Lewis song” at 12/1 to land the number one spot.
On the day the advert was released last year, The Vaults could be backed at 12/1, double the odds of this year’s act. Elbow remain as short as 6/1.
Elbow only accounted for 0.4% of bets before the advert was released this morning, however, since the band were confirmed to be featured in the ad, there has been a surge of bets for the English rock band.
Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek “Elbow remain fourth favourites in the market, behind George Michael / Wham, Ed Sheeran and Mariah Carey. "Last Christmas" by Wham still remains the most popular pick to top the charts with punters, in the month to date they have accounted for 44% of bets in the market.”
