Inspired by the imagination of P.T Barnum, the Greatest Showman is in line for a show-stopping night at the Academy Awards.
Hugh Jackman’s recent musical drama venture, The Greatest Showman, is being backed to scoop a coveted gong at the Academy awards.
Both his and co-star Zac Efron’s spellbinding performances on the P.T Barnum inspired film have claimed plaudits and a Golden Globe winning soundtrack.
However, it’s another breakthrough voice on the soundtrack which has led to an Oscar nomination.
Keala Settle plays the Bearded Lady in the Michael Gracey movie, and performs ‘This is Me’, a hit released by Atlantic Records which has climbed to number three in the UK charts.
The American actress’ vocals appear to have dazzled critics and the public in equal measure, with punters clambering to back the Michael Gracey directed flick.
Since the beginning of the year, a massive 61% of bets have been on ‘This Is Me’ winning Best Original Song.
At the beginning of the month, the song was 5/2 to pick up the Best Original Song, suggesting a 29% chance, however, due to considerable attention from punters, is now comprehensively more fancied at 11/8.
For those of you not up to date on your betting lingo, that’s an improvement from a 29% chance of scooping the coveted gong, to a 42% chance of winning.
The song is second favourite to win the award with bookies behind “Remember Me”, the Pixar hit as featured in the film Coco.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “When it comes to the Oscars, quite often the real gems are found in the less talked about categories, such as Best Original Song.
“Last year’s runaway winner “City of Stars” from the palatable La La Land was nailed on to scoop the gong, and Keala Settle and co-star Hugh Jackman will be looking to emulate the smash hit’s success.
“The overwhelming punter’s favourite is This is Me, which has attracted the lion’s share of attention with over 60% of all bets, and is attracting a lot of attention in the Best Original Song market.”
