The BC Lions Special Teams Coach sees the Chiefs to keep rolling and the Bills to keep suffering.
What's up guys, what a wild week of action we had in Week 1, and while some teams started the way we expected, others surprised us big time.
Where better to start than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs got off to a great start to 2018 by going to New Orleans and embarrassing the Saints 48-40. Veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for a crazy 417 yards, 4 TDs and ran in one on his own against the Saints' overmatched defense and the Bucs reworked D got enough stops eventually to win the game.
This week the Bucs play the reigning Super Bowl champs and the Eagles will be feeling good after getting past Atlanta at home. They will be starting Nick Foles in this one and it will be interesting to see which backup QB plays better
The Atlanta Falcons meanwhile will be in a foul mood after coming up short against the Eagles in the season opener. Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian is under pressure to get the Falcons offense into the endzone, as their old problems showed up against last Thursday night. QB Matt Ryan needs to target WR Julio Jones more in the Red Zone in my opinion Jones is one of the NFL’s most talented WRs but has been “missing in action” once the Falcons reach the scoring zone.
Having said that, look for the Falcons to rebound in this one as Cam Newton's Carolina Panthers face a nasty Falcon defense.
If you like wide open offensive football then you gotta love the Kansas City Chiefs. Few teams in The NFL can match the Chiefs when it comes to offensive playmakers. TE Travis Kelce, WR Tyreek Hill and RB Kareem Hunt are all threats to score anytime they touch the football. Second year QB Patrick Mahomes has one of the strongest arms in The NFL, something we saw many times on Sunday.
The Chiefs went to 1 - 0 on the year beating the division rival Los Angeles Chargers 38-28. Their defense struggled at times and if anything is going to derail The Chiefs it is a secondary that gives up far too many yards.
The Chiefs play a Steelers team this weekend that narrowly escaped the humiliation of losing to the Browns in week one, coming out of Cleveland with a tie, missing a chance to win it on a field goal in overtime.
KC are a much better team than Cleveland however, and I can see them rolling after week 1, so I see the Chiefs coming out of Steel Town with a 2 - 0 record.
Lastly, the Buffalo Bills, a playoff team in 2017, came into their opener against the Ravens with high hopes for 2018. They got blown out though by the Baltimore Ravens, losing 47-3 in a game that may spell the end of Bills QB Nathan Peterman’s time in Buffalo. Peterman threw five interceptions in his only start in 2017, then threw two more against Baltimore on Sunday.
Rookie first round draft pick QB Josh Allen gets the start for The Bills this week against the Chargers in Buffalo. Allen is the planned future for the Bills, but if Buffalo can not find a running game Allen will struggle against a bunch of really good Charger pass rushers led by former 1st rounder Joey Bosa.
The shaky status of the Bills offensive line and a defense that allowed three different Raven WRs to score in week one make me believe that the Chargers go up to Buffalo and get a W.
