Not one of the most famous derbies in the world, however a derby that means a lot to the people of Galicia and therefore it is always fiercely fought. On current form Celta are clear favourites as they lie fifth in the Primera Division whilst their fierce rivals are in tenth.
Celta have had a good season and but for a mid-season blip where they lost six of eight, they would have been sitting comfortably in fourth, their highest ever finishing position, and set for Champions League football. Celta have won four of their last six and lost just once, in their last six at home – so they meet their neighbours at the perfect time.
Deportivo’s defeat of Levante last time was their first win in 14 league matches and has somewhat steadied a sinking ship. They probably need one more win to guarantee safety but having lost four and drawn two of their last six away, that looks a tough ask. The end of the season cannot come soon enough for them and with Sevilla, Villarreal, Barcelona and Real Madrid still to play, the sooner they get those points the better. In the last four head to head in Vigo, there has not been more than a goal between them.
Celta are deservedly favourites but it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise if Deportivo got a draw. They have drawn 15 this season, five more than any other team and eight of those finished 1-1 with just two goalless draws.
Lots of opportunities here, Both Teams To Score is a real player at 1.73 (7/10) and it has to be worth having a small dabble on 1-1 (6/1) and 2-2 (12/1).
