Arsene Wenger is targeting a new defender following Per Mertesacker injury in training. Wenger has confirmed that the 31 year old defender will be out for a number of months after having a knee operation. New signing Rob Holding has never played a Premier League game and Wenger is keen to bring in someone who has experience at club and international level.
Following a huge wave of betting activity this morning, John Stones could be the ideal replacement for Mertesacker. The Everton defender has been linked with a £50 million move to Manchester City throughout the summer but, could Arsenal pinch him under their noses. The amount won’t bother Arsenal and Wenger is keen to bring in a second marquee signing to the club before the transfer window shuts. Surely, this will be one signing that would get the fans excited for the new season.
Having been 33/1 only a few days ago, if you move quickly you can get odds at 25/1 that Stones will complete a move to the Emirates before the transfer window shuts.
