Tom Love has two tips for the second leg of Wolves vs Olympiakos
Wolves vs Olympiakos
Wolves’ mammoth season isn’t over yet. They’ve been playing for over a full year now with their only break coming in the enforced break for the pandemic. It’s not like Nuno Espirito Santo has had a squad packed with depth either, he likes to operate with a pretty small squad and their strong campaigns in this competition and the Premier League this season are testament to the planning, preparation and recovery of his staff.
They’ve proven extremely difficult to beat this season and their game plan is quite clear. Still be in the game at half time and we will get something out of it. It was their second-half performances in the league that have got them where they finished and with the likes of Adama Traore and Daniel Podence off the bench it’s little surprise.
They got through their group with relative ease and after a first leg in Piraeus which ended 1-1 the tie with Olympiakos is on a knife-edge. You could imagine the tension if fans were inside Molineux for this one and I’m truly gutted that the Wolves faithful won’t be able to see these big European games they’ve waited so long for. Interestingly, the aforementioned Podence was signed by Wolves from Olympiakos in January and he was arguably their best player. Threats remain though with Kostas Fourtounis and Youssef El-Arabi.
I’m expecting this to follow a similar pattern to most games that feature the Old Gold with a tight first half but Wolves to eventually make their quality shine towards the end of the game, maybe even in extra time. With that in mind, a few angles make appeal such as the half time draw at 11/10, I’ll take a point on that. Wolves have the away goal so will be hell-bent on keeping the back door shut whilst the Greek champions won’t want to leave themselves too open early doors.
The 1/1 on Wolves to win and under 4.5 goals is my favourite bet here though. There’s a big disparity between the quality of the Greek and English top flight, Wolves should have benefitted from an extra week off and they have more match winners in their squad. The 8/11 quotes on them to win are fair but I really can’t see too many goals so I’m happy to bump it up to almost evens by chucking in under 5 goals.
