Tom Love has a 2pt selection for Arsenal vs Fulham as the Premier League kicks off
Arsenal are fresh off a Community shield win as they prepare for their season opener and London rivals Fulham in the early kick off on Saturday. Mikel Arteta has already got two trophies under his belt and fans are responding positively to the former player who has implemented a more disciplined and professional approach that has so far paid dividends.
It’s fair to say that top scorer Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has been a major reason for their successes, he comfortably outperformed his expected goals last season, showing just how clinical he is in front of goal, the Gunners may have to be more creative in the final third if they are to sustain it. Overall though it was hard to trust them away from home with just four wins all season, their underlying performance data was quite poor and they’re heavy favourites to win at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Fulham weren’t the most entertaining team in the Championship last season but they did a real good job in the play offs when it mattered. They’ve been more measured in the transfer window this season and that continuity should help them, despite this the Whites are still ranked as relegation fodder by the bookmakers.
They looked much more solid at the back when Michael Hector came in and he is going to be a key player for them this season, Harrison Reed has returned to sure up that midfield too, they are looking like they will be more competitive than they were a couple of seasons ago when they were in the Premier League. Scott Parker has a fully fit squad to choose from whereas Arteta is without seven players.
Fulham are 5/1 which could look a bit big given Arsenal’s shoddy away form in recent years but I’m much more inclined to get a bit more on our side and I’ll take the hosts with a +1 start on the asian handicap at just under even-money. Backing this selection means we will get a winner if Fulham avoid defeat but even if Arsenal win by exactly one goal we get our money back, we’d only lose if the visitors win by two or more goals.
