England vs Austria Tips

Betting Tip: England win to nil

Make no bones about it, this is a huge summer for women's football. Around 115,000 fans in total attended the 2005 tournament but there have been over 500,000 tickets sold for this event. What's more, England will hope that home advantage can play a pivotal role and guide them to the final.

My first pick will be for England to win while keeping a clean sheet. There are many reasons that I like this pick. Firstly, I think the Lionesses are on the hunt and their recent form in the build-up to this competition has been nothing short of phenomenal.

They haven’t tasted defeat in any of their previous 14 fixtures and have scored an average of five goals per game across their last six matches. Secondly, the hosts are not conceding goals and have managed to blow teams away while keeping things tight at the back.

The visitors Austria have had a torrid time when facing England, having conceded 22 goals across their last seven meetings while only finding the back of the net once.

I really like the chances of Sarina Wiegman's side to open proceedings with a heavy win and I’ll be taking them to win to nil for a point.

Betting Tip: Over 3.5 Goals

I want to be on the side of goals in this one. It’s unsurprising to see a relatively high line but I’m more than happy to take above evens for over 3.5 goals to be witnessed at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

England’s last six games have seen an average of over five goals per match and they will create a hatful of chances against this Austria side.

The visitors have won by some heavy scorelines themselves lately. However, despite their last seven matches seeing an average of nearly 4.30 goals per match, they haven’t faced opposition with the quality of England and they could be in for a tough time getting their tournament underway against the hosts.

Seven of the visitors' last eight matches have seen at least three goals scored, but I’m happy to push my luck and take over 3.5 match goals for a point here.
