Liverpool vs Rangers Tips
Betting Tip: Over 3.5 Total Cards
I’m dipping into the card markets for my first selection, as I believe the 11/10 on offer is a bit too high and should be closer to around 10/11.
On the road, Rangers have been extremely reliable for being involved in card heavy games as is evident by the fact that six of their seven competitive away matches (including Champions League qualifying) have witnessed at least four cards being awarded in total.
The man at the whistle is Clement Turpin who plies his trade in the French Ligue 1 and domestically he is awarding nearly four cards per match on average. He’ll be the man tasked with keeping things under control at Anfield and European nights at this venue can often be lively affairs.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have won 13 of their last 15 home Champions League group stage games and this should be a competitive affair between two British sides. But with a plethora of injuries to contend with, Liverpool have not looked like their normal selves and Rangers will be hoping to take advantage of that.
I’m expecting a frantic clash with plenty of challenges and I'll be backing over 3.5 cards to be shown.
Betting Tip: Liverpool Win & Both Teams to Score
Domestic games at Anfield have been incredibly entertaining so far this season with their four league matches so far producing an average of exactly five goals per game. It’s a little bit skewed given they smashed Bournemouth 9-0 but even so, two of the other three matches all produced at least three goals.
Throw in the ingredient of this being a European night at Anfield and it means that goals should be expected. Liverpool have not exactly been watertight and have conceded in all three of their home matches when you discount the aforementioned 9-0 thrashing of the Cherries.
Rangers tend to play above their level on the European stage and you can guarantee they will give their all in this one as well. However, they have lost two of their last three away matches which included a 4-0 thumping at the hands of Ajax in the Johan Cruijff Arena.
I think Rangers could get on the scoresheet as the Reds have looked more vulnerable than usual and have conceded eight goals across their last three matches alone. However, Jurgen Klopp will be demanding a reaction from his side and they should be able to claim victory.
