20:00 Wednesday
The hosts already have one foot in the final after a resounding 3-0 victory in the first leg at the City Ground. A chance of winning silverware would mark a huge step forward under Erik ten Hag but he’ll be keen to avoid an embarrassing implosion with such a commanding lead. Can Nottingham Forest do the unthinkable?
Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest Stats
- Domestically, the Red Devils have not suffered a home defeat since early August
- Away from home, United’s opponents have averaged just over five corners per game
- Only Newcastle have secured more league clean sheets at home than Manchester United
Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest Prediction
Betting Tip: Manchester United -1.5 Asian Handicap
The hosts have been impeccable of late when taking to the turf at Old Trafford. They have emerged victorious in all of their seven home games since coming back after the World Cup and despite the fact they take a 3-0 lead into the second-leg, boss ten Hag will be expecting his side to add another victory to their record.
Nottingham Forest probably know that barring a miracle, their League Cup run is likely coming to an end here. Their main focus is on preserving their Premier League status and it will be interesting to see what lineup Steve Cooper opts for. It could of course go the other way and we could see the visitors looking to go for it from the very first whistle.
Either way, It looks likely Manchester United will be able to pick them off and given the form they’re currently in, they should be able to score more than once here. Nottingham Forest were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet in the first leg but going to Old Trafford already 3-0 down is not an ideal situation.
I’ll take the hosts to cover a -1.5 Asian handicap.
Betting Tip: Nottingham Forest +3 corner handicap
Sticking with the handicap team, I do like the look of the visitors to stay close to Manchester United in terms of the corner count.
The Red Devil’s opponents at Old Trafford have registered an average of just over five corners per game and in the first-leg, we saw Cooper’s men hit six in total and actually won the corner count.
Despite their priorities being elsewhere, that’s not to say the visitors here will simply roll over and I do think they’ll be keen to put in a good performance. Combine that with the fact that after losing Christian Eriksen until approximately May, ten Hag won’t want to lose any other of his key players.
I’m not expecting Manchester United to run away with it in terms of corners and I think the line of +3 is a little too generous. I’ll have a point on this pick which landed with ease in the first leg.
