Chelsea vs Leeds - Both Teams to Score

Chelsea were beaten in the League Cup final at the weekend but there is no time to lick their wounds with a stern test awaiting them in the FA Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino needs his side to perform in the cup competitions with Chelsea languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League. The former Tottenham boss has faced criticism this season but lifting a trophy could buy him the time he needs to turn things around.

Leeds are the form team in the Championship. They have won their last nine league matches, scoring an average of 2.44 goals per game. The terrific run has seen them move to within six points of Leicester, who are top of the table. However, there is still plenty of work to be done as they are level on points with Ipswich. Daniel Farke’s side needed extra time to beat Plymouth 4-1 in their FA Cup replay. I’m expecting there to be goals once again.

Pochettino’s side missed a few golden opportunities in the League Cup final defeat. They have home advantage here and are averaging 1.89 goals per game at Stamford Bridge this season. Chelsea’s last 10 home matches in all competitions have seen an average of 3.8 goals with Pochettino’s side averaging 2.5. The Blues won 6-1 against Middlesbrough the last time they took on Championship opposition.

Leeds were exceptional as they beat Leicester 3-1 in their last match. They will need to be at their best to get past Chelsea but they have to goalscoring prowess to trouble any opponents. Farke’s men are averaging 2.25 goals per game in 2024.

Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United - Over 9.5 Shots On Target In The Match

Nottingham Forest succumbed to a 4-2 defeat at Villa Park on the weekend. They fell 3-0 behind very early on but were able to claw their way back into contention before the home side killed the game off. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have already earned a 2-1 win over Manchester United at the City Ground this season and will be quietly confident here.

Manchester United’s winning run came to an abrupt end as they lost to Fulham at the weekend. However, the result didn’t come as too much of a surprise with Erik Ten Hag’s remaining so open in defence. The Red Devils have conceded a boatload of opportunities since the turn of the year and I don’t expect that to change on Wednesday night.

Forest have shown plenty of attacking impetus under Nuno and are averaging 1.71 goals per game since he took charge. They should have plenty of chances against this United side.

Ten Hag’s insistence on his forwards pressing high up the pitch combined with a deeper defensive line has led to huge gaps in the United midfield for the opposition to exploit. Their attack has looked deadly at times but the end-to-end nature of Manchester United’s games means they always look vulnerable. Their eight matches across all competitions in 2024 have seen an average of 13.13 shots on target so over 9.5 in this match looks a good bet.

United faced Newport in the last round. In that match, Ten Hag’s side allowed Newport to have seven shots on target and managed nine themselves. Our bet has landed in four of their five matches since.
