Nottingham Forest are looking to claim another victory over Manchester United at the City Ground when the teams meet in the 5th round of the FA Cup. The pressure on Erik ten Hag is growing after yet another lacklustre defensive display.

Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United Prediction

Nottingham Forest have had a mixed bag of results since Nuno Espírito Santo took over as manager.
They were beaten 4-2 by Aston Villa in their last match after making a disastrous start. They have picked up just one win in their last 10 matches across all competitions which has seen them drop to 17th in the Premier League.

Nuno’s side managed to beat Manchester United 2-1 in the league meeting between these sides at the end of December. They will be hopeful of securing the win once again as they go toe-to-toe with a side that are struggling at the back.

Manchester United’s season is hanging by a thread. As the off the pitch overhaul takes place, things have stagnated on the field. The issues that have plagued Erik Ten Hag’s side from the start of the season with the manager unable or unwilling to make adjustments. The Dutchman is seemingly on trial with INEOS mulling over their summer appointments.

The Red Devils are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League this season. They suffered a setback in their last match against Fulham as they were beaten 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Alex Iwobi. United struggled to contain Fulham. They have been conceding a heap of chances this season and there has been scathing criticism of their defensive structure.

Erik Ten Hag is missing several key players for this clash. Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane have been added to an already long injury list so we should see United struggle once again.

As a result, I’m backing over 2.5 goals in the match with Bet 365. United’s makeshift defence are unlikely to get any protection from the players in front of them with Ten Hag intent on his midfielders joining the forwards in pressing the opposition back line.

Nottingham Forest have scored in all seven of their matches at the City Ground under Nuno. Those games have seen an average of 3.43 goals and there has been at least three in five of them.

Manchester United ran out 4-2 winners when they faced Newport County in the last round. They afforded the League Two side plenty of opportunities to score despite the quality gap between the two sets of players.

Ten Hag’s side have played eight matches across all competitions in 2024 and those have seen an average of 3.88 goals per game. Over 2.5 goals has landed in the last seven matches they have played thanks to high-risk approach to the game.
