15:30 Sunday

Coventry and Manchester United go toe-to-toe on Sunday to decide who will face Manchester City in next month’s FA Cup final.

Mark Robins will be hoping to pile on the misery for Erik Ten Hag with the Dutchman under increasing pressure. The Sky Blues are the underdogs but they have every chance of winning this one.

Our bet builder for this one is available at 3.49/1 with Paddy Power.

Over 2.5 Corners For Coventry

Manchester United have conceded the second most corners in the Premier League this season with an average of 7.53 per game. Erik Ten Hag is happy to allow his team’s opponents to get plenty of shots away so his defenders and goalkeeper are frequently in the firing line. This leads to a lot of corners for the opposition. They have played 16 matches across all competitions in 2024. United have conceded an average of 8.5 corners per game during that period.

The Red Devils conceded seven corners against Liverpool in the last round of this competition. Coventry may not have the quality that Klopp’s men have but Newport County managed to win three corners when they faced Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Coventry won four corners at Molineux in their last FA Cup match as they secured a 3-2 win. They will be keen to get at Manchester United’s makeshift backline here so I’m expecting them to win a few corners.

Man Utd Goalkeeper To Make 3 Or More Saves

Manchester United’s defensive approach has drawn plenty of criticism and it’s easy to see why. They have played in this manner for the duration of the season and are on course to concede more shots in the Premier League than the infamous 2007/08 Derby side that holds the record for the fewest points won in a season. Andre Onana has been a very busy man as a result.

The goalkeeper made a stuttering start to life at Manchester United but the stats show he has done a fantastic job. His Opta stat of 3.35 goals prevented in the Premier League means he ranks 5th in that regard. He has managed a total of eight clean sheets despite the team putting him under immense pressure.

Crucially for this bet, Onana has been making plenty of saves. The Cameroon international has made an average of 3.84 saves per game in the league this season. This rises to 4.63 if we only include the data from his matches in 2024. He is averaging five saves per game in the FA Cup. Newport County, the lowest-ranked side United have faced this season, managed to force five saves from Onana.

A Goal Scored in Both Halves

Erik Ten Hag’s sides’ matches this calendar year have seen an average of 1.75 goals scored in the first half.  A goal has been scored in both halves in four of their last five. The exception was against Brentford but United were very fortunate not to concede an early goal in that one.

The United manager has been unwilling to change his approach to this point so there is no reason to believe Sunday will be any different. Ten Hag has an abundance of quality at the top end of the pitch so they should cause problems for Coventry. His chaotic approach to the defensive side of the game means Manchester United will be wide open once again so we should see a goal scored in both halves of the match.

Coventry have nothing to lose here. They should show plenty of attacking intent from the off and there has been a goal in both halves in their last five matches.
