We are now only 24 hours away from the return of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season after eight weeks without live football. The excitement has been building all week, as well as genuine intrigue after such an unprecedented break.

The Bundesliga is the first major league in Europe to restart following the coronavirus outbreak and the entire world of football will be watching to see if it runs smoothly over the weekend.

There is no doubt which Bundesliga fixture will receive the most attention this weekend, as Borussia Dortmund host Schalke in the Revierderby. Ahead of Saturday's clash between two of Germany's fiercest rivals, we have drawn from the WhoScored database of stats and created a juicy 25/1 Sky Bet RequestABet to add even more excitement to the mix.

Erling Haaland to score

Erling Haaland's devastating goalscoring form for Austrian side Salzburg earned the 19-year-old a January move to Borussia Dortmund. Haaland turned down Manchester United to join Dortmund and he has only gone from strength to strength in the Bundesliga.

The Norway international scored a hat-trick off the bench on his Dortmund debut and has nine goals in just eight league appearances for the club. Remarkably, only nine other Bundesliga sides have scored more goals than Haaland has managed on his own in 2020 and he is already 12th on the list of top goalscorers in the division. At home his strike rate is a goal every 40.4 minutes of league action.

Dortmund to win

After such a lengthy lay-off it remains to be seen how both teams will react on Saturday. Only two teams were in better form than Dortmund in the Bundesliga pre-lockdown, while only two sides were in worse form than Schalke. Does that go out the window completely? That much is unclear but Dortmund are expected to win here nevertheless. They head into the weekend in second place, four points behind Bayern Munich with RB Leipzig and Gladbach breahting down their neck. They cannot afford a slow start.

Before lockdown, Dortmund had won seven of their last eight Bundesliga matches. Their dominance at home was clear. Over their last four home league games they were winning at both half-time and full-time. Schalke, meanwhile, have failed to score in their last four away games and are currently on the longest winless streak in the division (7 games).

BTTS - Yes

While Schalke are considered underdogs heading into Saturday's derby, they can at least draw on the fact Dortmund are missing several key players through injury and their recent record away to their rivals. Schalke have remarkably scored four goals in each of their last two matches at Dortmund. S04 may not have enough to get a positive result from Saturday's clash but they should at least be able to cause Dortmund some problems, particularly when you consider the natural unpredictability of derby encounters and an inevitable lack of match sharpness in both ranks.

Suat Serdar 2+ shots

Statistically speaking, Schalke midfielder Suat Serdar is the most improved player in the Bundesliga from last season to this. His WhoScored rating has increased 0.83 in that period and he has been a revelation under David Wagner this season.

The 23-year-old only managed two goals in 26 league appearances in 2018/19 but will resume this season with seven goals to his name from eight fewer outings. The Schalke midfielder is the club's top scorer in the league this season and therefore their most likely goalthreat, capable of shooting from distance and inside the box. Serdar has registered 2+ shots in more than half of his Bundesliga games this season (10/18)

Daniel Caligiuri to be carded

As is typical of most derbies around the world, they tend to be feisty affairs. There is no exception as far as the Revierderby is concerned. The last three meetings between the two sides have seen an average of six yellow cards handed out. In that time, there have also been three red cards dished out. There is certainly no love lost as far as Dortmund and Schalke are concerned.

So who is the most likely culprit to fall foul of the matchday referee? This fixture means plenty to Schalke's Daniel Caligiuri, who only needs one more goal to become the outright top scorer in the Revierderby. The 32-year-old, however, has been in the referee's notebook more than he has scored this season. Caligiuri has been booked four times in the Bundesliga this season and all of his yellow cards have come away from home. Furthermore, the Schalke veteran has been booked more times against Dortmund (6) than any other side in his career. Against Dortmund this weekend he will have to contend with Jadon Sancho and Raphael Guerreiro...
