After their dismal display on Monday against Bayer Leverkusen, it’s hard to see how Werder Bremen escape the predicament they’re currently in.

A combination of cluelessness in front of goal and kamikaze defending has left Die Werderaner nine points off guaranteed safety, although a play-off finish from here would be seen as a very good result for Florian Kohfeldt’s men – and that’s not looking likely right now.

With the worst attack and worst defence in the league, things look bleak.

Things are far from bleak in the Freiburg camp.

Christian Streich’s side, fresh from a brilliant draw at RB Leipzig, sit a remarkable 7th in the table, just two points behind Wolfsburg in a Europa League spot.

Streich, on something of a shoestring budget, has turned Freiburg into a very solid, functional outfit, who will have full believe that they can dismantle this shambles of a Bremen side.

Encounters between these two are generally very close, but while Freiburg have continued developing under their manager this season, Bremen—after a couple of very good years under Kohfeldt—have regressed dramatically.

Considering only Jiri Pavlenka and Milot Rashica (as well as perhaps Johannes Eggestein) can hold their heads up high this season for Bremen, it’s a little surprising that Freiburg are as long as 13/10 to win this, and win this I believe they will.

There are simply too many things going wrong at once for Bremen, and the Schwarzwald-Stadion isn’t an ideal place for them to start fixing them.
