Leverkusen v CSKA Moscow – Wednesday 19:45, BT Sport Extra
Group E looks the tightest of all the eight groups on paper as picking a winner from these two and Spurs and Monaco is a tricky task. The North London side are favourite to top the pool but they look mighty short at the 2.10 they are with some bookies on Oddschecker to do so given this is their first Champions League campaign since Gareth Bale’s departure.
Their main challengers in the group are Leverkusen, but the Germans could be without start-striker Stefan Kiessling again here. The forward missed out at the weekend but in his absence Joel Pohjanpalo stepped up and scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Hamburg. The hat-trick was all the more unlikely given Leverkusen were 1-0 down at 78 minutes and level after 91!
Leverkusen’s opponents are regulars at Europe’s top-table but they tend to struggle outside their homeland. In nine away group stage matches since 2013/14, CSKA have avoided defeat just once as seven of the games have had Over 2.5 Goals. A high-scoring defeat could be on the cards again here and anything bigger than 2.50 looks generous.
