Juventus v Lyon

This tie is one firmly in the balance. Bookmakers have both sides around the same odds to go through after Lyon won the first game 1-0. No away goal for Juventus will have disappointed Maurizio Sarri and should the French side nab a goal in Turin then the Bianconeri will have to score thrice.

Since winning the Serie A title Juve have switched off with some poor results albeit games with nothing riding on them, they’ll hope to be bang on it for Friday night and I think they will be. Cristiano Ronaldo lives for this competition and he raises the standards for every team he’s involved in, he has been firing in the shots of late, in fact he averages double that of the next man in the league, but the Italians need to get the main man in more presentable areas to score goals.

Juve’s problem is shot locations, on the stats they take plenty but they’re mainly potshots from poor areas. They need to work the ball into better zones and against a deep block that Lyon are likely to employ. Les Gones will be happy to play on the break but the Italians are still pretty strong at the back and Lyon finished 7th in Ligue 1 lets not forget.

Juventus are fair 4/7 favourites but I’m not expecting a barrage of goals. Therefore I’ll plump for the home win and under 4.5 goals at 5/6. I’ll make it a two point play.

Juventus to win and under 4.5 goals - 2pts @ 5/6
