Real Sociedad v Espanyol - Friday 19:45, Sky Sports 3
Real Sociedad and Espanyol lock horns at Anoeta Stadium on Friday evening. Sociedad bounced back from a comprehensive defeat to Real Madrid to beat Osasuna 2-0 in their last game, while Espanyol let slip a two goal lead at home to Malaga and are still looking for their first win of the season.
Sociedad failed to win any of their first five matches at home last season under David Moyes, but recovered to win seven of their final 14 once he’d left. This form helped them record their third top-half finish in the last four seasons. Visitors Espanyol were awful on the road last term, losing 14 times and scoring just 18 goals. Overall they had the worst defence in the league conceding an average of two goals per game and this has continued so far this season as they’ve already conceded eight times. What’s more, they’ve lost seven of their 12 trips to sides between 7th and 13th in the last couple of seasons, but only failed to score in three of these as both teams netted in eight.
It is clear that new manger Quique Sanchez Flores has looked to instil an attacking mindset into his side this season and this was particularly evident in the match against Malaga when even at 2-0 up they continued to attack. However with such a leaky defence it is always likely that the other side will score and Espanyol are not prolific enough currently to sustain such a way of playing.
Nonetheless, we think they might get on the scoresheet again, particularly since Sociedad have managed just one clean sheet in their last eight at home, making Both Teams to Score a solid bet. However, given Espanyol’s dire away record, we’re going to go for Sociedad to win and both teams to score as our standout selection at a juicy 4.5.
