Valencia v Real Betis - Sunday 15:00, Sky Sports 2
Betis will hope it’s not a case of ‘second season syndrome’ as they’ve started this season poorly having finished an impressive 10th on their return to La Liga. Granted, they had to visit the Nou Camp first up but a 0-0 stalemate at home to Deportivo in a dour game suggests that, once again, finding the net might be an issue for last term’s lowest scorers.
A 1-0 defeat to tiny Basque club Eibar marked the first time since 1999 that Valencia had lost their first two league matches. To make matters worse they’ve since sold key players Shkodran Mustafi at the back and Paco Alcacer up front to Arsenal and Barcelona respectively, this after already losing Euro 2016 winner Andre Gomes to the Catalans earlier in the window.
Last season it was a case of underachievement with a talented squad for Los Che but departures of their best players means there is a distinct lack of quality amongst the ranks this time round. The former Spanish giants are on a five match losing streak and look like a club in freefall so it wouldn’t surprise us to see Betis win and pile on the misery at the Mestalla at an inviting 5.3.
