Barcelona v Atletico Madrid – Wednesday 21:00, Sky Sports 2
The first big La Liga clash of the season sees champions Barca host Atletico. Barca were shocked by Alaves in their last home game but bounced back with a 5-1 win at Leganes as Messi and Suarez were reinstated to the starting line-up. Atletico themselves could only manage a pair of scrappy stalemates against promoted sides in their first two but have won their last two by an aggregate of 9-0, also winning at PSV in the Champions League.
Barca’s defeat against Alaves was their third in their last six at home as they lost back-to-back home games against both Real Madrid and Sociedad towards the end of last season as part of a three game losing streak that opened the door in the title race.
However, Luis Enrique has an excellent record against Diego Simeone with Barca, having won seven of their eight meetings in all competitions in the last couple of seasons, including all four games at the Nou Camp, though Atleti did manage to get on the scoresheet in three of the games.
While they’ve got an excellent record against Real, Atletico’s normally watertight defence struggles to contain MSN. However, Simeone’s men have managed to find the net in all six of their trips to Barca and Real since 2013/14, while Barca have only managed one clean sheet so far this season. As a result both teams to score looks the way to go here, though we expect Barca to outscore Griezmann and co.
