Inter Milan v Palermo - Sunday 17:00, BT Sport 2
Two sides who suffered opening day defeats take on each other at the San Siro on Sunday evening. Frank De Boer’s first game in charge was a day to forget as his Inter looked flat and lacking in ideas as they were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Chievo. Palermo were equally uninspiring in their 1-0 home defeat to Sassuolo.
Both of these teams struggled in front of goal last season, with Inter scoring 50 times, and Palermo only finding the net on 38 occasions. Inter have sought to rectify this stat with the addition of Antonio Candreva from Lazio, who should be a threat in support of last season’s leading scorer Icardi.
Palermo on the other hand have looked to shore up a defence which conceded 65 times last season, the second most in the league, as their three biggest transfers have been on a centre-back, left-back and defensive midfielder. However, there must be fears from many Rosanero fans as to where the goals are going to come from, particularly as their top two scorers from last season, Gilardino and Vazquez, have both left.
Palermo were poor on the road last term and all of their four wins came against bottom-seven sides. Against the best teams they struggled at both ends of the pitch as they scored just once in their trips to the top five while conceding 14 times. Palermo’s defence is weakened by a couple of suspensions and with their problems in attack we expect Inter to win to nil.
