Tom Gilmore has SEVEN great bets from on a brilliant day of racing action.
Moonee Valley R2 No.6 – TAWTEEN (NAP)
Mare was very good three weeks ago when hooning up-front over 1200m, only tired late and nailed by winner who secured a soft run. Drops 4kgs into this and like the fact she returns to the 955m. Loves the track and should fly along up front and be too good.
Moonee Valley R9 No.13 - HIGHLAND REEL
Unbelievable race, but i've settled with this Irish import for A.O'Brien and R.Moore. Profiles very similarly to last years winner Adelaide, comes through the same lead up (winning the G1 Secretariat) and arguably is a 2-3 length better horse. Forgiving of recent failure in the Irish Champion when he never appeared to handle the soft track. Gets to the Valley in tremendous order after settling in perfectly at Werribee and was lucky enough to be dealt barrier 4. Will get the firm track he wants, and the suck run 2-3 pairs off a genuine tempo.
Randwick R1 No.3 – REDOUTABLE HEART
Geldings return was very good at Warwick Farm over 1400m, carried the big weight and stuck on well. Drops 3kgs for the effort/much fitter for the run, draws ideally in gate 1 which should see him punch up from the inside and hold a prominent enough position in running. Fancy he’ll be too good for this lot (competitive in Group company!) and continue to improve over a trip.
Randwick R6 No.1 – WUDANG MOUNTAIN
Really nice horse that was good over a mile at G3 level two starts back, then was runner-up to a quality galloper over 1600m again (went to Melbourne and performed well). Drops back to 1400m which looks ideal and the blinkers go on, should get all the favours from the inside draw and despite the 60kgs looks mighty hard to beat in an average field.
Doomben R3 No.7 – GROOVY GAL
Return at Ipswich over the 1100m was very good, jumped to the front and put them to the sword kicking away in the straight. No doubt fitter for the run and only rises 1kg in the weights, arguably better suited at Doomben (notorious leaders track at the moment) and no issues with the sting out, keen on her here with key rival a back-marker.
Ascot R7 No.1 – DREAM LIFTER
Nice horse this fella, has plenty of ability and looks really well in amongst a few of these. Can absolutely fly fresh as evidenced by a dominant 5 length win over 1200 back in April (ran serious time!), was then immediately spelled and returns on the back of a very impressive trial at Albany. 2kg claim for Turner has him in relative weights exceptionally. Stakes races on the agenda this prep.
Morphettville R2 No.3 – HUSHEEN
The blinkers went on this filly as she stepped from 1100m to 1400m last start at Murray Bridge, and what do you know….she absolutely brained them! Went to the front and just booted clear when straightening to win by 9 lengths. Rises in grade here but remains at the 1400m, gets no weight and again will roll forward from the alley – like her after that confidence boosting win.
