Danielle Mooney got a lovely response from ATHENIAN GARDEN (best price 3/1)
over C&D last week and as that race was for apprentices, Paddy Butler’s charge picks up no penalty and has the chance to run off the same mark in this similar contest. Although that performance did come a little from left-field, there appeared to be no fluke about the victory and if in the same mood, there’s no reason to believe why the daughter of Royal Academy won’t repeat the dose.

Apart from one unexplainably poor run at Epsom, BLACKLISTER (best price 7/1)
has had a fairly consistent start to his career and with the pick of his six performances coming on the polytrack at Chelmsford two starts ago, there’s more than a decent chance that Mick Channon’s charge will break his duck at some stage on an AW surface. Indeed, if he hadn’t met trouble in running at the two furlong pole that evening, the son of Lawman would already have a winner’s rosette on his stable door, and having backed up that unlucky effort with another solid display at Nottingham last time out, expectations are high that this likeable two-year-old will feature heavily in the outcome of this competitive nursery.

BERLUSCA(best price 5/2)
often saves his best form for the floodlights of Dunstall Park and following solid performances on his last two visits to the Black Country venue, it’s easy to feel upbeat about another positive display from David O’Meara’s inmate. On his latest C&D spin, the son of Holy Roman Emperor had the misfortune to bump into two well-handicapped three-year-old’s in the shape of Aleator and Sky Cape, but as they, and the fourth that evening, Ready, have all gone on to prove subsequently, the form is about as rock-solid as you will find any Class 4 1m 1f handicap run at the track in recent times. With no apparent sneaky ones in opposition on this occasion, the six-year-old gelding is strongly fancied to regain the winning thread.
